make all the "assume a spherical cow in vacuum" jokes you want, but once physicists find a problem they like they absolutely will model that cow down to the atmospheric drag of cowhide as a function of temperature, humidity, and ratio of areas of white and black patches

also, i keep wanting to comment or discuss links people post here but then i remember that THE MAN has decreed this thread should stay free of clutter, so maybe i should create a parallel discussion thread or something

Has anybody mentioned 1900HotDog.com? The last comedy website? It's home of internet's Seanbaby and formed cracked writer Brockway, as well as a few others/newers. a free article each week, and patereon supporters get an article every day.

Ginifab is a chinese clothes seller. But that's not important. what is important is their online tools: https://www.ginifab.com/feeds/ their online inch/mm converter is legit great and useful and has a very nice visual component.

Matt Millman has good tech notes: https://www.mattmillman.com/info/
The pages on weird crimp connectors used in PCs is great, and a good reference on electrical tapes as well.

https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/ is a good reference for all sorts of engineering/mechanical/electrical/physics info if you're DIYing some bullshit

https://www.thistothat.com/ need to glue this to that? here's how do.

https://smd.yooneed.one/ lookup SMD codes if you don't know what a busted component is.

I plan to live forever, of course, but barring that I'd settle for a couple thousand years. Even 500 would be pretty nice.
I found out about this online museum called "The Bureau of Suspended Objects" from Jenny Odell's book "How to Do Nothing". As she describes in the book:

quote:

I spent three months photographing, cataloging, and researching the origins of two hundred discarded objects. I presented them as a browsable archive in which people could scan a handmade tag next to each object and learn about its manufacturing, material, and corporate history.

I like Item 185, "Summer 1968 Disneyland Ticketbook". Under the "Use" section, it describes some old Disneyland rides including Tomorrowland, which apparently had some banging music they played on the waiting platform.

Dunno if a straight up web store is allowed, but: https://rainbowtomatoesgarden.com/ is a store that sells every single kind of canned fish (and cephalopod etc., just think seafood in a can). It has tools for sorting through the 700+ different tins of fish, and by "tools" I mean a Google Sheets spreadsheet linked directly from the site page. So without buying anything you can actually use this site as a tool for figuring out which eighteen brands sell gristling sardines packed in tomato and spice, and how big each can is and what it costs etc.

It also has tagging with filters, so you can click the "SARDINE SIZE BIG (CHONKERS)" tag to get this page https://rainbowtomatoesgarden.com/product-tag/large/ or "tin level: advanced" to get https://rainbowtomatoesgarden.com/product-tag/advanced-tin/ which lists some cans of fish that cost $45
or

how about all the stuff talked about by instagram/tiktok canned fish influencer "daywithmei"? https://rainbowtomatoesgarden.com/product-tag/daywithmei/

it's loving amazing

e. oh and they also sell over 300 kinds of tomatoes, hence the name, but sardines > tomatoes

https://www.rogerdeakins.com/

Roger Deakins is a cinematographer, best known for shooting most (all?) of the Coen Brothers movies, plus a bunch of other noteworthy ones like Blade Runner 2049, 1984, etc. His web site has a "members" area that you have to sign up for, but it's free and you can just put fake info into everything other than email. Once you do, you can see pages that separate a bunch of the movies by scene and include explanations of how he set up the lighting for the locations, including scans of his notes. There's like a dozen pages about lighting Blade Runner 2049.

not necessarily, you have sweet ones and need them to have sugar to fuel the fermentation process

but more likely it’ll be comparatively high in tannins, making the fruit astringent if you try to eat it straight up
