It's pretty easy, the only fiddly part is getting steamodded installed.
Annoyingly, the only official guide is a video.

But it's basically installing the old version of steammodded, which you can get on the Cryptid git page, guide for that is here. After that it's just putting it in your mods folder.

Also you would be right! OmegaNum uses that notation (if I'm understanding this correctly...)

It supports up to e10##1000.

Making Balatro mods seems quite difficult but the modding community has done an excellent job of making it so installing mods is simple and easy.

it's funny that even the balatro mods that try to be balanced overcorrect wild cards to be like "x0.25 mult for every pixel on a wild card played"

To get comically high or even remotely close to the OmegaNum cap you'd need the mod for Cryptid that adds really stupid Jokers, Jen's Almanac.

I genuinely don't get the point of it, as every joker just gives ^^2 and stupid poo poo like that. Or looks like this.

Or this.

I don't particularly like Jen's Almanac because of it, Cryptid is a nice balance between stupid poo poo and still some semblance of sanity.

It was nice the second I managed to get the "play a flush using all wild cards" achievement because it meant never having to care about wild cards again.

Yeah, I didn't bother with Cryptid for a long time because I thought it would be like that.

Aye, I dodged it for a while myself until I saw it in a random YT video as b-roll. Cryptid in the grand scheme of things isn't too out there all things considered. Most of the really extreme cards are really hard to get (Exotics are the silly ones, and there's only one way to get them unless you're playing a specific deck). Plus, there's enough difficulties where you can make almost any deck a challenge to get a win with.

I wish the cameo card skins weren’t locked by suit(aka I can’t put a skin on all the face cards). It’s kinda confusing to have face cards of different suits look different

Battle report: Golden Needle

Tackled the final challenge today. Here's a screenshot of my joker line-up at the beginning of ante 8

Right before the screenshot was taken, I had Abstract instead of Campfire. My line-up wasn't really in need of more X-mult on the face of it, but I had a worry building. The ante 8 boss was Crimson Heart, and I had no re-roll. And if you think about the core jokers here sans Campfire, what we have is a very strong combo with just one weak spot: Blueprint, Oops and Chad are all pretty worthless without Bloodstone. So the boss has a one-in-six shot of disabling the lynchpin of the build - don't forget you only get one hand in this challenge, so the joker it hits might as well be sold.

Blueprint and Chad can be a great combo in many circumstances, so I was looking for a plan B - a Photograph, a Justice card, something like that. And the Campfire was an option that at least would make Blueprint effective. By the end of the Big Blind, nothing better had emerged so I committed to the Campfire plan, sold Banner and anything else I could buy into slot 6, plus all the consumables I could. My one slight slip here was to sell the final joker I could afford prior to selecting the boss, so I went in with a one-in-five chance of the Bloodstone being hit.

Of bleeding course...No matter, this is what we trained for, the moment has been foreseen. Can the emergency Plan B get us over the line? I assembled the best flush I possibly could (because now neither banner nor golden needle cost are barriers to discarding) and with a lot of trepidation I sent it...

Oh yeah, all the challenges are through!

And yeah, on reflection I should have sold Oops and Bloodstone to pad the margin of error some more.

Yeah, wild cards are absolutely trash, unless there's some 10k IQ play I'm missing with them. Disabled by 4 different boss blinds, only usable for hands I never want to invest in, no associated joker like every other card type.

They need a joker or two that actually play off of wilds, two wilds per tarot, or being immune to suit boss blinds rather than triggering them all.

Whoo, managed to unlock Stuntman with the dream team of Hanging Chad, Photograph, Brainstorm, and Blueprint. Also had Scary Face which didn’t hurt. What a fun combo

I find them useful when I'm trying to flush with something like onyx agate or such.

Wild cards are slightly ok for enabling ancient joker but otherwise they are pretty weak. Wish they came 2 to a tarot like Magician.

Yeah, that would probably be fair. I think part of the problem is that most situations where wild cards are beneficial are where you're playing to one specific known suit. And in that space, they're competing against lots of alternative deck fixing like suit changers and Death which are just better at the job. Ancient, Seeing Double and Flower Pot are the places I see the additional flexibility of a wild card being especially good, but those latter two jokers are pretty uninspiring.

I think the last time I picked up any wild cards was when I saw an early Seeing Double while forcing clubs flush. Basically made my wild cards into glass cards that couldn't break (and obviously with a different trigger point, but I don't remember if that ended up mattering).

I do dream of a flower pot + ancient joker + onyx agate + bloodstone + all wilds jank deck, but only being able to get one wild card at a time just really sucks the fun out of it. Lovers should hit at least 2 cards, and honestly probably would be fine being at 3 like Moon/Sun/Star/World, maybe with a lower probability to appear to compensate.

I can imagine how it might work ok if you have some kinda splash build where you can just throw out whatever trash hands, and not worry about actual the poker hands? I dunno, might still be tricky to consistently get all 4 suits, unless you have and expanded hand size and plenty of discards

HazCat
May 4, 2009

I think flowerpot + splash could work in a high card or pair build, but I never play high card or pair runs so I haven't actually tried it.

It can do some work in a straight or full house run, but you have so many better options it's hard to justify how inconsistent it is there.
