I started last week and have been playing a lot, so I decided to finally try and learn exactly how the order of operations works. I knew that you want to have your +mult jokers left of your Xmult jokers, but now I'm realizing this left -> right rule also applies to played & held cards, right? So do I need to manually rearrange my hand before playing so that mult or lucky cards or whatever are left of any glass or polychrome cards, for example? (and would you want to do that with all your held cards too? Actually, I don't think there are any "+mult held" modifiers are there? So maybe I don't need to worry about that.) Oh and I guess I would also need to account for joker "when scored" triggers when ordering my played cards, since those happen in the hand scoring phase

Got it. That's a lot more to think about, I've probably missed out on so many chips from not ordering my hand and played cards. I guess this all means that Xmults that happen in the joker phase are generally better than +mults in the joker phase... especially as you get later into the game, and you've got more and more multiplier points racking up from the playing cards, adding a little +15 at the end is not worth so much as doing a X3 on the whole thing. And on the flipside, Xmult joker effects that get triggered in the "played" phase are generally not as good as +mult effects in that phase, since you'll be multiplying a much smaller number. I hadn't considered any of this math before.

Does that rule still count if you change/disable the boss blind or do you have to clear it?

Speaking of DNA, I just started a run where I skipped the first blind for a free rare joker, which was DNA, and then in the first shop I bought a Hologram. "Legendary run" I thought, before immediately losing to the following boss blind because of bad luck, but mostly due to being bad at cards, if I'm being honest. I swear the hardest part of this game for me is getting through the first few rounds with a standard deck and no mults. I'm not good at poker...

Wow, I just discovered that when you open an arcana pack and it draws a hand for you to pick cards from, you can also play tarot cards from your consumable slots on that hand, before playing tarot cards from the pack (or skipping). Very useful!

Is there a specific meaning to when the chips/mult counters are on fire? I know it means you’re at pretty high numbers for your ante or whatever, but does it actually convey any usable information?

Oh interesting, I thought it might be something like that. And I assume that’s before any RNG stuff is even rolled?

Ariong posted:Yeah, if it catches fire before you even play your hand, it means whatever hand you're about to play can one-shot the current blind with the base hand score alone, no card scoring or jokers required. Gotcha. Allow me to explain what prompted me to ask this question: I just unlocked the anaglyph deck and started my first run with it. First ante I find smeared joker. First blind of ante 2, the tag is "level your flush by 3". So with the free double tag, I'm already at level 7 flush, and finding the flushes with minimal effort. I went through ante 2 and 3 without even any other source of chips or mult and was still getting the flames every time I prepared the first hand, just off the leveling alone. It got me curious, cause usually I only see the flames when I've got a bunch of modifiers and jokers waiting to be calculated, I guess I've just never been this over leveled.

Allow me to explain what prompted me to ask this question: How it's going: ![]() This has turned out to be my best run ever. Flush is now level 30. Many of my face cards are glass. Hanging chad + photograph is insanely busted. My highest hand was over 70 million chips, and that was without the blackboard. I can pretty consistently get it so I play a red flush while holding black cards, it mostly just comes down to how lucky I get with the bloodstone... Hopefully I can break 100 million with this one.

Just got 215 mil, hell yeah!!! Just realizing those are almost ante 12 numbers... still not consistent enough though. We'll see what happens

Jezza of OZPOS posted:is flowerpot the worst joker in the game? I can't think of another joker I have simply never gotten any value out of whatsoever I can imagine how it might work ok if you have some kinda splash build where you can just throw out whatever trash hands, and not worry about actual the poker hands? I dunno, might still be tricky to consistently get all 4 suits, unless you have and expanded hand size and plenty of discards

Are there are any jokers besides cavendish that have per-run conditions for appearing?

Do the things that add an edition to random joker overwrite existing editions, or do they always go for base editions? I don't think I've ever seen an edition get overwritten like that
