I tried to watch Inland Empire at home and wound up pausing a lot before pulling the plug at an hour and a half in because I just couldn't concentrate anymore even though I recognized there was something worthwhile going on in the movie. Thankfully the movie palace I talked about is showing it next week and it'll be easy for me to sit there and absorb the vibes for all three hours uninterrupted because I'll have no choice, kind of the way I absolutely can't meditate by myself at home but can drop into a meditative state pretty easily if I'm in a room with other people where I'm worried that I'm going to disturb them if I make noise or shift around too much and where it would be an absolute faux pas to get up and leave the room.

Living in a major city is a blessing because I have 3 arthouse theaters nearby. Any given weekend I can see something strange or foreign or just old on a giant screen with a bunch of other enthusiasts. It bums me out that a good portion of the world can't have that experience because it's magical.

I felt this way about 2001. I couldn’t get into it at all at home. Every time I’d try I’d check out the moment the get to space But in IMAX where I got to soak in the visuals it really clicked and worked for me.

I've started watching movies at home with good headphones, and it's been a really fun way to appreciate good sound design in a way I really haven't gotten to outside of being at the theater.

It was still cool, but I was expecting something like when they do those massive dome screenings at a museum or a planetarium.

It is an indulgence but completely worthwhile. I'd honestly rather have a nice set of headphones than a nice speaker setup.

I watched The Descent the other day. The best part was when the lady who got a pickaxe to the throat managed to stay alive and conscious just long enough to tell the main girl that the other girl slept with her husband. The group was trapped in a cave, being attacked by monsters, she knew that she was dying, she realized she only had one chance left to stir up drama for no reason, and she kept herself alive through sheer force of will to do it.

Still plugging away at some pre pre production stuff for my possible film. Gonna try another push here soon but here’s a piece of concept art I did showing the sleep paralysis monster’s home world, where part of the last act will take place.![]() I have some ideas of how to achieve it. Just depends on budget. I’m working on the pitch deck now to throw around. Idk what I’m doing

Reminds me a bit off the glimpses of the otherworld we get in Phantasm but if it was FMV game. If you know what I mean. Also the end of The Void for obvious reasons.

I can see the void. I honestly don’t really know where I was grabbing from. Maybe Prometheus a bit. I just really want to make a found footage movie that gets bigger not smaller as it goes along, and does not I repeat does not end with showing anything cool in the last 10 seconds lol

I loved the concept and the weird sci-fi of it all, but the ending of Cuckoo was tough. Mexican standoff just felt tonally off.

yeah Cuckoo didn't really do it for me because it went from a creepy somethings wrong about this situation trope to an action film.

Ok I know there’s a thread for this but I gotta dish it to my horror homies cause a previous time I was at this bar you identified and gave me the gift of Neon Maniacs. This bar shows compilations of horror trailers or horror segments and I can identify probably 97% of them but one I just saw was a total whiff. A girl is in the tub very Nightmare on Elm Street style and then a fin rises out from the water and it’s somehow revealed to be a full on Gillman who, I believe, then tries to politely talk to her and says “Excuse me miss something something…” in captions before she freaks out and runs away where two (very likely) disgusting shitboys are watching. Kind of had The Gate or Monster Squad vibes from the 30 seconds with no sound I saw. Thank you my lovelies xoxo
