The chopping pair winning women's doubles was a pleasant surprise. I don't really enjoy watching choppers in singles, but double defenders vs. double attackers is somehow entertaining?

afaiu it is some kind of power struggle between WTT and CTTA. (Liu GuoLiang sitting between the chairs having high positions in both) To put it very briefly. (My interpretation) CTTA sees the mandatory participation rules for higher WTT tourneys, combined with the restriction of participants per nation, plus the scoring system of the World Ranking List, as detrimental to Chinese interests. So being unsuccessful in negotiating 'better' rules, they test the waters now how far some light blackmailing will get them. The mentioned players on international break? Yeah; this was planned for "after the Olympic Games", announced well beforehand, and does undoubtedly make sense in long-term training planning. Also known beforehand were the penalties, financial (peanuts for CTTA) and WR points (could turn out annoying if stacked up over time). So that was taken into account for sure. To be fair, CTTA has some points. Thus got some supporting voices (Gauzy, Aruna ...). But only words so far, no actions (yet?) It might get more interesting... ____________ Btw what happened to this thread, were some OG posts split off making me lose my bookmark or something? Well, found it again...

Yeah something like that probably... Anyway. For irl reasons I am currently near Bad Königshofen, who have a team in Germany's 1st league (TTBL). I got to see two of their matches live so far. I rarely get to see TTBL live, as the closest ones are usually ~3 hours away from me. Really exciting opportunity, obviously to compare the live vs. online impressions. From just the end of last year: BKÖ vs. Bergneustadt Both teams missing their #1: Steger, injured (broken finger) Jha, prefers to play some unknown no-name tournament not even counting for the WRL the US Open lol Gets scolded by The Dude in the post-match interview ![]() Ueda - Ruiz Had been looking forward to this, Ruiz with creative sidespin receives and such. However, since he came back from injury out of form he never found his game. Ueda simply too safe, could afford to wait for weak attempts of Ruiz to convert himself. 10, 1, 7 1:0 Allegro - Duda Other way around, Duda too powerful, Allegro not up to the task and simply too slow. -10, -1, -4 1:1 Zeljko - Rassenfosse Zeljko had been fun to watch online before, and he lived up to it. Great energy, fans loving it, chanting his name, and he certainly profits from that in close situations. Rassenfosse playing a more controlled offensive style, with the arguably stronger forehand. Zeljko with the ability to accelerate on both wings, but the riskier plays, and trying to avoid the fh-fh duels from mid-distance. Both succeed really well in showing their respective strengths, and in the end it's maaaybe the home crowd pushing Zeljko over the line. Cracking match, and if I wasn't a Zeljko fan before, I sure am now! 6, -11, -8, 17, 12 2:1 Ueda - Duda Strange one, Duda's power first dominates the match, and he looked like the sure winner well into the third game. But somehow Ueda managed to switch up placements and spin just so to break Duda's rhythm enough to keep him from the strong attacks. Not that Duda played weak all of a sudden, but Ueda simply... scored more points. And turned it around. We have all seen that happen before, I guess. ![]() -10, -7, 10, 5, 8 3:1 Nice home victory to stay on playoff place #4. attendance: 540, duration: 3h5m

And from the beginning of this year: BKÖ vs. Fulda Steger still injured, Fulda without their top Taiwanese players. Ueda - Ovtcharov Ovtcharov way less loud/obnoxious as it comes across online. Probably due to the sound mixing or so? Though he is a pro through and through: he felt disturbed by some backlit screen roughly in his line of sight, so asked to have it turned off. (The staff failed to do so, just blocked the projector's light with some wooden thingy ) He was the only player to do this... But afaik he just politely asked. The match itself was high class, but finally Ueda never stood a chance, the power and serve variation of his opponent were too much for him to handle. -13, 11, -3, -8 0:1 Zeljko - Meng, Fan Bo Zeljko on fire as usual, Meng taking very long to adapt. I think, being a tall player, he struggled to find his distance. Changing between long swing/mid-distance and off the bounce/close to table was hard for him. Zeljko felt more comfortable in his preferred style of play, plus the home crowd again, equals: 4, -13, -7, 4, 8 1:1 Allegro - Filus Let's make it short like the match: Allegro no power. -6, -9, -7 1:2 Ueda - Meng, Fan Bo Ueda steady as ever, just this time vs. a weaker opponent. Meng sure tried, but could not find a recipe. Again, Ueda played exactly as strong as in his first match. So stark are the differences. 6, 7, 8 2:2 Zeljko/Allegro - Ovtcharov/Hsu Hsien-Chia Allegro's time to shine. Regarded something of a doubles specialist anyway, he played way better than in singles. Ovtcharov just the opposite, as one would expect. He did his best though to mentally support the young Hsu, talking to him and calming him down after mistakes. The atmosphere got a bit spicy though after a fail serve was given against BKÖ, followed by a few edge balls for Fulda. Even after the match the venue moderator couldn't stop whining about "all the unlucky umpire decisions against us" But finally, without the top Taiwanese guys, Fulda is still unable to nominate a strong doubles pairing. 5, -6, 11, 5 3:2 So, another nice win for BKÖ to... what? Stay in 4th again? Alright... The two non-TT buddies I brought along were delighted! What a nice surprise for them (and lucky we didn't catch a boring match). attendance: 768 (sold out), duration: 3h37m

cool! nice writeup

the hell is up with games to 7 points
Are you talking about best of 7 games, or first to 7 points win? In champions league and some other leauges they have this thing that set no. 5 is a tie break first to 6 points (no winning by two, alternating serves)
No no, look at the Singapore Youth Smash. First to 7 points for each game, no 2-clear-points, every game. Except for the decider, which has the 2-clear-points again. E.g. code:

Man, a lot has happened. It's fun to watch Bundesliga too, a lot of close battles now right before playoffs. New tournament starts tomorrow, WTT Champions Chongqing. The draw looks pretty exciting: Mens / Womens Now if only Aruna could take out WCQ in the first round...

Tankakern posted:Now if only Aruna could take out WCQ in the first round... This did not happen ![]() Speaking of, do any other men play with a non-red rubber? On the women's side, I know Bernie Szocs plays with a pink side. Those are the only 2 examples that come to mind.

I watched some Africa Cup a couple weeks back, seeing some there. Checking back it's semi-finalist Salifou (BEN) with blue and quarter-finalist Oba Kizito Oba (CIV) with green. The latter was a new discovery to me, nice smooth technique. Someone to keep an eye on? Other high ranked guys I really don't know. For women Sabine Winter of course plays blue. But more surprising is her experiment of using anti on the bh now. What do you think of that?

Lee played so badly in this WTT Champions final in Incheon that it looked like match fixing. Wonder what the media will say. Most boring final ever against Xiang Peng.
How do you beat Felix Lebrun, Lin Gaoyuan and Lin Yun-Ju on the way to the final, then end with a half an hour long wet fart losing 4-0 in the final against someone ranked #23
11-0 lol

Overperformed 3 times and then exhausted cause he wasn't used to go so deep in a tournament any more? ![]() 11:0 is called being given a Ringerl (little ring) in Austrian dialect.

But yeah, one thing to take away from Incheon and Chongqing is how dominant the top Chinese are even without FZD and Ma Long. Rarely even going to the decider anywhere, Xiang Peng out of nowhere, etc. So no need to reactivate anyone for the upcoming big events, right?
4 Aussies in the World Cup, that's crazy, man. Draw for Macao coming out soon...?
And here we gooo... Draw Men | Women Watch on YT: ITTF Channel just now: T1 | T2 With an innovative new scoring system, again. This time it's "4 games per match, no matter what". Demonstrated nicely already by Bergström-Shan 2:2. Also the TTR seems to be in place again (video review).
Woop world cup! Go Bergström! ... that scoring system is a bit weird yes, but oh well, only the group stages I guess
