Get a different mic. Adapting that thing isn’t worth your time.

I’ve been doing outdoor movie nights for friends and family projected on the side of my house. The picture is good, but sound has been weak.

I’m looking at a single Behringer B1C, which is their new battery-powered busking speaker. There aren’t many real reviews yet, but it seems to compete with the Bose S1, which seems popular.

I don’t strictly need it to have a battery or Bluetooth for movie night, but I can see that being useful for other things.

Behringer rates it as “good for 300 people” but am I going to be disappointed by a single compact speaker in the yard for movies? Is there a product I should be looking at instead?

I know what I’m getting with Behringer, but it’s half the price of the S1.

I’m just not sure how much volume and fullness I can expect from a compact busking speaker. I’m not expecting a THX theater outside, but I’d hate to spend $300 on a thing and realize I should have bought a from a different product category entirely.

I can attest to these being very durable. You'd have to figure out your own zone switching, but it's got 2 sets of stereo outputs. I don't know how "hifi" it is, but I use a bunch of them as utility amps.

I think something must have happened with EU regulations on idle power usage or something, because I've noticed several amps and powered speakers that used to have an auto power feature but no longer do.

Apple hasn't made an AirPort Express in ages. I heard having one of those on a modern wifi network can slow all your other devices down too. Is that a thing?

From briefly skimming the docs, try changing that threshold to -20. I’d bet you’re not even touching audio at +20.

You need to set your threshold so that it’s right at, or slightly above the sounds or dialogue you consider a nominal level.

Once the comp really gets “into” the audio, a 20:1 ratio may sound a little squished. 3 or 4:1 might be a little more sensible.

Assuming those numbers are dB, I’m not sure you need that much makeup gain. Unless you’re having to max out your VLC volume, you don’t need any makeup.

Do we have an AR glasses thread? I'd like to go on long walks but would like to be able to watch videos without having to hold my phone or lookdown without looking silly.

I see devices such as maybe the Rokid Max AR or the RayNeo Air series, but it's unclear to me if these are what I want, because I don't think I want the display to be directly in front of me, I just want something small in like the corner of my vision or at least adjustable?

I have Viture Ones. Seems like all of them use the same display modules and general setup, so I feel confident saying you don’t want to take a walk in them.

They’re awesome on a plane. I can watch a movie on a big screen without distractions, but I still have my peripheral vision to see the flight attendant asking for orders, or eat a meal.

I love them in bed. I take out my contacts, adjust the diopters to my prescription and watch on the ceiling.

I do not like them for walking around the house. Even in passthrough mode with the screen small in the corner, you’re always looking through the prism mirrors and it fucks up your perspective. I definitely wouldn’t walk down stairs in them.
