Are the types of anti-ship missiles being used in the Red Sea known currently? Id assume C-801s etc but Id think that size thing would damage a ship more than whats been reported.

I've been thinking about it, trying to find a silver lining for the genocide going on in Gaza, and I think we can all agree that one good thing to come from all of this is finally informing the world about how terrible the Houthis are. I mean, before they started these recent rounds of attacks on shipping in solidarity with Gaza literally nobody was talking about their horrendous antisemitism or whatever. It's a shame it's taking a genocide to bring this to light, but you really have to be grateful to the true champions of truth and justice that have brought the perfidious Houthi to the forefront of the conversation without being distracted by the actions of Israel and their enabler the United States.

personally, i think attacking civilian supply ships is a bad thing and onpy filthy terrorists would do that. a big country like the us, canada, japan, russia or nazi germany would never sink a civilian suppy ship during a war. thats never happened in the history of shipping, we are experiencing a first.

I gave up on posting in this thread because I was just so disheartened by what my lovely government is doing, but all this bullshit about Iran's "restraint" is just insane. I've seen dozens of impacts in major cities, where the hell are people getting the ridiculous idea that this isn't a big deal??

Just take a look at the footage in this article, and keep in mind that these are the videos that were approved for release in the media - There is a lot of footage going around on Telegram/Whatsapp showing impacts smack in the middle of major cities.

I think its because above all, people hope the Iranian response is forceful enough to get Israel to stop their genocide as other options have failed. They want to think the REAL BIG DADDY BOOM BOOM barrage is still an option and those shown are just barely a show of force.

It might very well be, or it might not.

Iran called it a total loss in a state tweet, according to at least one major news source. I've only seen three videos but they all look like that one, I dunno what good an air field is with a bunch of craters in it.

You dont "kill" an airfield is the thing. You either perform repeated follow-up strikes, or you have just been performative. Remember when the US blasted that Syrian airbase with Tomahawks? How long til it was active again?

ranbo das posted:

If they just hit the airstrip, that would be restraint on their part. The actual tarmac is maybe the least valuable part of the base, and could be repaired in hours (in an oh gently caress get it working now situation with material on hand) to a couple days.

If they wanted to make it a total loss you target fuel and ammo storage, planes and support buildings.

yep exactly. Presumably FIRMS data would show fires there too, but idk if thats a global thing or locations opt out.
