The whole argument against gumroad was mainly pushed by that stupid God guy. Unsurprisingly for awhile he was all about shutting down places like gumroad because he hated porn being shoved in his face everywhere and won't you guys think of the children before eventually letting slip that he's just mad cause he doesn't think posting spicy feet pics on the internet is "part of God's plan" and that these nice ladies should instead be getting married and starting a family. Anyways, now that he isn't posting in here there's not really much more to say.

So, I’ve been told that apparently the website that is currently being raised as an alternative is… itch.io???? I had no idea they sold things other than games. I guess every website is pivoting into either being a general storefront or a TikTok-like (lol at LinkedIn). I’m honestly not sure it’s a proper place to head too, in terms of long term stability. But perhaps it’s the only one available right now with a sufficient history.

I follow a bunch of artists on bluesky--mostly horror and fantasy poo poo--and it's been pretty funny watching them complain about the deranged auto moderator. If you see a blood and gore warning it could be covering anything: a horror movie screenshot, actual photos of war crimes, or literally a picture of raspberry jam on toast. Nudity is the same way, except it has more categories (suggestive, nudity, adult content, nudity-cartoon) and it gets it wrong on a regular basis in every conceivable direction. Like, a running, bloody-fanged werewolf gets hit with nudity (but not gore), then a picture of a sexy witch with her titties out just sails on by untagged. Even when artists accurately self-tag, it will often override their tags. This is probably the fate of basically all of these sites, because the companies are never, ever, ever going to spend the money for enough moderators to handle the avalanche of content, but also won't leave money on the table by throttling posts to what they can actually review. People have also been reposting porny colleagues talking about how the Gumroad poo poo is threatening their ability to make rent or afford necessary surgery. It really underscores how there needs to be universal basic income. People who put hentai stickers on their car should go on watch lists.
