If you think pornhub is bad, consider sites like motherless and efuckt. There's plenty of other sites that you'll find within 5 minutes of browsing reddit. Then there's Tor, IRC, usenet, I could go on. No one is doing a drat thing about them. This is pure security theatre and a way for the right-wing to continue the grift. Banning pornhub will not prevent people from uploading revenge or kiddie porn.

The reason the payment processors 'ban' the likes of PornHub is because they don't want to waste resources in legal fights/investigations/warrants/etc that leave them culpable due to poo poo like FOSTA-SESTA. Which, yes, is a direct result of right-wing grifting, but it's also the law now which means companies have to throw money at it like chaff. And it's way easier to just say 'nah' and pull out than it is to deal with constant horse poo poo. Security theater that you're forced to comply with still takes real funding.

I'm honestly real glad that I never bothered to set up a patreon or gumroad cuz I thought they were kinda rear end to begin with. I guess it means I can do that stuff with whatever platform becomes the next big boy and get in ground floor before they poo poo the bed in 10 years. Huge bunches of my friends and their friends are getting affected by this bullshit though. this may very well bankrupt multiple artists before it can be solved. On the plus side, it seems there's an organized effort for a class action lawsuit happening, and last I checked it already reached 700 or so signatures. People are finally getting sick of having to duck and cover everytime this poo poo happens, and hopefully that turns out well.

There's also a huge cost to store user's private data. Each state and county is coming up with their own laws around data privacy and companies have to hire dedicated people and buy software to properly track it.
