POWERFUL FUNGAL LORD

Allow me to introduce myself. I am known as mycelia, and alongside my co-mod Shell, I will be your guide to this role madness game for 13 players.

The Tokyo district of Sumida—formerly known as Honjo—is home to seven Mysteries. Tonight, those mysteries have taken the form of Curse Stones, each seeking out a Curse Bearer to use them. Kill someone with a Curse Stone and it becomes empowered; kill a fellow Curse Bearer and gain even more power; empower the Curse Stone to its fullest, and gain the ability to resurrect the dead ...

So there are seven power roles?
Well, there are actually nine Mysteries (it’s complicated), but no. The four non-Curse Bearer players have their own abilities.

Do I need to have played Paranormasight to enjoy this game?
Not at all. Actually, I’m partially creating it in the hopes I’ll entice more people to play it. To that end, this game only contains spoilers for the first “chapter” of Paranormasight. Any curse that is explained within that chapter will use their correct description. The curses that are revealed later in the story will be altered to avoid spoiling their story relevance. In addition, the in-story alignment of the curses and their bearers will not determine their alignment in this game.

Okay but what is Paranormasight
Ah, right. Paranormasight is an horror visual novel-adventure (like Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, that kind of thing). It was published by Square Enix, who promptly forgot to market it. You can find Paranormasight on Steam and various other consoles.

Rules
Rule 0, the important one that overrules all other rules: First and foremost, we are here to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Please make sure that at all times you put your own sanity and mental well-being first. If at any point you feel like you're having a bad time, like someone's taking things too far or just need someone to talk to, please contact your mods or one of our many community volunteers. The following users have been suggested as points of contact if you do not feel you can reach out to me: The Traditional Games forum moderators, Leperflesh and Antivehicular; and Mafia regulars VoodooFly, Hal Insandenza, Bifauxnen, Monathin, Wologar, Maerlyn, Cloacamazing!, EccoRaven, CCKeane, Opopanax, Sandwolf and Shellception.

1) Don't be a dick.
2) No unsanctioned out of thread communication about the game.
3) No copy-pasting any out of thread info into the thread, especially not your role PM. Paraphrasing is generally fine, when in doubt ask your mods.
4) Do not post after the hammer.
5) Do not fake day actions.
6) If a day action has taken place, the user and the target (if specified) should stop posting until the action has resolved.
7) Do not post when dead.
8) Don't edit your posts.
9) Lurker rules: Please attempt to make at least 5 posts with a reasonable amount of content (i.e. don't just post numbers, say something). Failure to reach the minimum postcount will get you a warning first, second time will get you modkilled. If you have problems reaching that number due to real life issues, let us know preferably in advance. We'll work something out.
10) Seriously, don't be a dick.

This game contains no elements that are purposefully designed as mod bastardry. There are no hidden components to any role that are not made clear in the role PM. Please feel free to ask for clarification from the mods in your confessional if you are unsure of anything.

Night action results will be given as "You successfully [action]ed your target.", followed by any further information. Failed actions will be given as "You failed to [action] your target." There will usually be some flavor text in italics delivered with the night results. While flavor text won't outright lie to you, it also isn't part of your result text. Rely on it at your own peril.

You will need Discord to play this. Please join the server here: https://discord.gg/YJYhbkcs

Eventually, the town came to a decision: it was AFancyQuestionMark who was conspiring to complete the Rite! But though a Curse Stone was found on their body, the only soul dreg it contained was their own.

AFancyQuestionMark has been eliminated D1. They were found holding the One-Sided Reed.

quote:

Kills by dismembering one who calls the bearer’s name.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

As a night action, you may ##eavesdrop on another player. The following morning, you will receive a copy of any results that player receives.

It is now Night 1. 24 hours for night actions.

There is a tension in the air as, one by one, people emerge from their homes--but it lifts as a headcount reveals no new victims. Still, it's too soon to grow complacent. As long as the Curse Stones are active, the people of Honjo are in danger.

No-one died on Night 1. It is now Day 2.

I did ask the mod about it! He said it was fine for now.

I lean towards trusting the messenger so I wanted to respond.

Also just so everyone is on the same page here: we're currently allowing it as long as the thread doesn't become incomprehensible. Good faith and all of that.

In the last moments of dusk, the vote was called, and Cube fell. But they, too, had been innocent.

CubicalSucrose, TOWN-aligned bearer of the Taiko of Tsuguru, has been eliminated.

quote:

Kills by beating one who strikes the bearer.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

The first time you are targeted by a night killing action, it will fail and your curse will activate. When your curse is active, you may as a day action **##curse** a player, killing them.

It is now Night 2. 36 hours for night actions.

... And as the sun rises, it glints off a certain distinctive hairclip, its wearer lying collapsed on the ground. Just as well, for though there is no visible wounds on their body, their bloodless pallor makes them hard to identify.

Opopanax, TOWN-aligned holder of the Pentagonal Hairclip, has died from exsanguination.

quote:

Fun and functional!

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

At night, you may use your spiritual power to ##protect another player from a killing action.

It is now Day 3. 50 hours until deadline.

Have these deadlines all been at different times or am I just losing my mind? Didn't realize it was soon. I'm here and okay moving to Illu. He said he'd back and I'd still like to hear from him + maybe get a response to a message I sent.

I made the last one at 1am my time and regretted it very badly :negative: now it's only midnight!

Another vote. Another death. A sense of dread, as Illusionis' curse stone clatters to the ground, empty.

Illusionis, TOWN-aligned bearer of the Whispering Canal, has been eliminated.

quote:

Kills by drowning one who turns their back on the bearer.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

At night, you may ##watch another player. Your curse will alert you to the identities of anyone that visits that player.

Somehow, the lack of a corpse does little to assauge the growing paranoia of the town.

The exhausted populace finally brought the gavel down. But this time, no Curse Stone, empty or otherwise - just a single talisman, its twin still missing.

Johnny Keats, CHARM-aligned holder of a Protective Charm, has been eliminated.

quote:

Even in death, victory.

You are CHARM-aligned. You win as long as one player holding a charm is alive at the end of the game.

You are always holding a charm. During Night 1, choose a player to ##give an additional charm to. If that player is killed at any point afterwards, no matter the cause, their flip will be obscured, and you will be given the opportunity to ##resurrect them the following night. Doing this will kill you, unless you are protected that night.

It is now Night 4. 24 hours for night actions.

Shigima Manor, Sumida District, Tokyo. 12AM
Harue Shigima--codename, "Yuming"--tremulously regards the Curse Stone in her hands. So much blood has been spilled for this moment. Her compatriots are in position to back her up.

All she needs to do is call on the curse.

Yuming, SCUM-aligned bearer of the Haunting Clappers, has successfully completed the Rite of Resurrection!

quote:

Kills by incineration one who carries a source of flame on their person.

You are SCUM-aligned. You win when SCUM has full control of the vote. At night you may either use your personal action or perform a ##kill on another player.

In place of your usual factional kill, you may ##plant a match on another player. If at least one player has a match on them, you may use your curse to ##ignite, which will immediately kill by burning every player currently carrying a match.

Fool of Sound, SCUM-aligned bearer of the Ever-burning Lantern, has successfully completed the Rite of Resurrection!

quote:

Kills by exsanguination one who is bathed in moonlight.

You are SCUM-aligned. You win when SCUM has full control of the vote. At night you may either use your personal action or perform a ##kill on another player.

At night, in place of performing your factional nightkill you may ##illuminate another player. Your curse will alert you to the identities of anyone that player visits.
If you perform the nightkill, your curse will shroud you in darkness, rendering you undetectable.

Spork-chan, SCUM-aligned bearer of the Fool's Procession, has successfully completed the Rite of Resurrection!

quote:

Kills by fatal fall one who hears the curse’s song while the bearer is hidden.

You are SCUM-aligned. You win when SCUM has full control of the vote. At night you may either use your personal action or perform a ##kill on another player.

At night, you may use your curse to ##distract a player, preventing them from using any actions or having any actions used on them.
If you perform the nightkill, your curse's song will always reach your target's ears, no matter what barrier stands in the way. (Your kill will be unstoppable/immune to redirection/both by any normal means)

Azure Heron Agency. 6AM
The radio crackles to life. Hal and NSRG exchange a grim look as the newscaster reports the discovery of two bodies, burnt beyond recognition. They may have survived the Rite of Resurrection, but it's of little comfort.

Hal Incandenza, TOWN-aligned bearer of the Foot-washing Mansion, has failed to stop the Rite of Resurrection.

quote:

Kills by crushing one who hears the curse’s voice.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

As a night action, you may ##befriend another player, adding them to an unconfirmed masonry with you.
As long as the masonry has at least one other player, you may instead, as a night action, use your curse to ##kill one person in the masonry. The masonry will then be dissolved.
You may not ##befriend and ##kill on the same night. Once you have used your ##kill action, you may no longer ##befriend anyone.

Nutsack Rangoon, TOWN-aligned bearer of a Ouija Board, has failed to stop the Rite of Resurrection.

quote:

No relation to the green plumber.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

As a day action in your confessional, you may send a ##message to another, living, player. They will be able to send one message in response, to which you may respond one more time.

Spacebanito, TOWN-aligned bearer of a Curse Scroll, has died by incineration.

quote:

Forewarned is forearmed.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

You do not begin the game with a Curse Stone. Instead, you will inherit the Curse Stone of the first TOWN-aligned player to be killed.

Tired Moritz, TOWN-aligned bearer of the Beckoning Light, has died by incineration.

quote:

Kills by strangulation one who follows after the bearer.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

At night, you may use your curse to ##beckon another player, redirecting any non-killing actions they take to yourself.

Sumida Police Department. 6AM
Sandwolf scowls at the Evergreen Beech as it disintegrates in his hands. Even though the identities of the killers are now clear, there can be no justice.

Sandwolf, TOWN-aligned bearer of the Evergreen Beech, has failed to stop the Rite of Resurrection.

quote:

Kills by hanging one who tries to mislead the bearer.

You are TOWN-aligned. You win when all threats to TOWN are eliminated.

At night you may choose three targets to question. Your curse will alert you as to if one of them has any killing action.

Bank of the Sumida River. 7AM
As the first light of dawn breaks over Sumida, two figures slowly regain consciousness on the concrete riverbank.

"Mister?"

"Hm?"

"Where are we? What happened? Where's my mom? I want my mom."

"Mm. Sumida River, if I'm not mistaken. We've just been resurrected from death--"

"Huh?!"

"--and I believe we have your mother to thank. C'mon, then." Keats gets to his feet and holds out a hand to the young Shuuichi Shigima. "She's waiting for you."

Keats, CHARM-aligned bearer of a Protective Charm, has been resurrected by Yuming!

Doing this will kill you, unless you are protected that night.

... And so ends the tale of the Seven Mysteries of Honjo. It has been an honor to be your Storyteller. This game may not have been perfect in its conception, but I thank you for persisting with it until the end. I look forward to our next meeting.
