I would like to wait and see if the 28 Days Later 4K is worth upgrading from my Blu-Ray, but then they had to go and say it would have a steelbook. Fingers crossed that the cover art ends up being gently caress ugly to eliminate any temptation.

Yeah, definitely motion smoothing of some sort. Lebowski 4K is considered a big improvement over the blu-ray.

My LG doesn't seem to be owning up to any sort of 'smoothing' option. Though changing it to "cinema" video mode seems to have helped a little. I'll dig in some other time.

Thief 4K is knocking my socks off but wish it had original stereo mix, just to have it.

It actually has the original 4-channel mix per the transfer notes, just adapted to 5.0. It reads as 5.1, but the bass is muted and there's mono surrounds.

Seems like it's easier to just use 5.1 containers for 3.0 and 4.0 mixes.

I wonder if the 28 Days Later blu-ray prices will tank when the 4K drops.

I guess it depends on what ends up happening with the transfer. If it’s AI ridden or overly HDR’d or featureless or something very glaringly obvious to even the casual viewer the DVD/BR would be the best one to go with.

Usually about 3-4 days from when you order, sometimes 5.

Definitely, The Fall already tanked. I took my copy to a used movie place for fun (I know, but didn't want to fuss with shipping) and they offered $12. The clerk looked shocked like that's the most she ever saw for a Blu-ray, I said nah I'll just keep it until I have the 4K in hand.

I just got a shipping notification today but it's not really shipped. It's the "Hey we printed the label." one. It really shouldn't be marked as shipped until its in the hands of the post office.

Not that that's fair in regards to an ebay price but that's a lot more than used media places ever pay out for a single disc.

Yeah on an LG OLED turn TruMotion off and RealCinema On. RealCinema will help reduce any stuttering on movement on the high refresh OLED screen.

It's worth noting when you put in a 4K Blu-ray and the TV switches to HDR mode, all of the picture settings are separate from SDR mode. So it's possible regular movies and TV don't look that way because you thought you turned it off until you popped in a 4K.

This annoyed me when my LG C3 stopped accepting signal on HDMI 2. I never solved it, seems like a firmware issue because unplugging and plugging fixes it. But I don't want to do that all the time so I moved to HDMI 1. Suddenly I had to redo all of my settings.

What’s the best way to see The Good, The Bad, The Weird? I heard the original Blu statewide was 1080i for some godforsaken reason*, and Arrow’s made a gorgeous 4K Blu, but I don’t have a 4K set or player. Goons, what do you suggest? I’m tempted to just grab the DVD for $15 until the right option comes along.

* probably some cable-ready master just tossed on a disc, right?

Arrow did do a regular blu as well as a 4K one, although it's a region B release so if you're in the states you may need a multiregion player

Some game consoles will play UHD discs. Even without a 4K TV you'll benefit from that.

FYI, if you already have an external Blu-ray drive, but not an all region player, you can use Make MKV to extract the video files from the disc regardless of region

It had a very clumsily edited theatrical version where they basically cut an entire subplot, but that subplot turned out to be pretty crucial to the overall context of what happens in the movie. So when they added those scenes back in for the Director's Cut the movie all the sudden made a lot more sense.

I'll probably pick up the UHD at some point, although I already have it on blu ray so I don't think it's worth dropping like $40 on a release day steelbook.

Dad used to play DeepStar Six regularly when I was a kid and we had a blast with it, especially as a double feature with Leviathan. A few years ago I rewatched it and it didn't live up to those good old experiences, but Miguel Ferrer was still pretty fun. This would be the first time I've seen it since dad died; if they don't cut corners with the remaster/AI-bullshit it up, I'd be happy to give it another chance with this edition specifically
