Hey look it's a new shiny thing, I like new shiny things. My only question is, why wasn't this thread announced more clearly? We should have had a press conference to announce that we were going to announce that a new thread will be opened some time in the next 6 months.

Cool new thread! Use AMD for gaming and high end! Use Intel for a Plex server due to built in transcoding capabilities. What a world!

AirRaid posted:Given that they are still "supporting" AM4 right now with a few new CPUs, this is 100% no guarantee that Zen 6 won't be on a new socket with a few Zen5 refreshed CPUs coming out alongside. The part that doesn't make sense to me is that their CCD+IOD approach would make it trivial to support both in one generation, yet they choose to not do that. Why? Like, the 6000 series name is unusef on the desktop. Why is 6800X3D not just a 7800X3D with an AM4-compatible IOD? It certainly would sell a lot.

There's already the PC Parts Picking thread, so I don't think there is any point in effort-posting an OP here to keep recs up to date, right? At most the idea of time capsuling per quarter to check back on in another ten years of dead gay forums is probably doable. Retroactive time capsules are no fun...

Which has driven me a little nuts because thanks to the 7900X3D, we know they must have the six-core CCD for a potential 7600X3D literally ready to go. Also to correct a previous post of mine from old AMD thread, I think what I am waiting for now is the Zen 5 version of the 7800X3D which is 9800X3D, yep -- not 9700X3D. Call me when we figure out heterogenous compute / nail having disparate dies.

After Arrow Lake launches? You'd hope they've fixed whatever the problem is with these. It might even be that this is "the fix" and they will offer to upgrade anyone with a broken Raptor Lake CPU to these to make the problem go away.

Chips And Cheese, a site that functions a lot like Anandtech used to back in the day, has done a video interview with Mike Clark, who's the chief architect of Zen 5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoZ0hP9mkU4 It's also available as a transcript They also have an article on the AMD Zen4C Bergamo server CPUs.
