Nice. We got super lucky and found a place that was economical, we probably aren't going anywhere any time soon.

Yes op I got my home in 2016. We're outgrowing it and I don't expect we'll be able to afford a house with more space and things we need for years, even with a poo poo load of equity in this place. The mortgage would probably be doubled even with a huge down payment

Maybe. I'm lazy though. So maybe like parts of homes if my parents die and still own them? *shrugs*

I'm 44, on my 3rd home. The first home was a duplex I bought when I was 25, instantly making me a landlord. Great idea on paper, harder to execute especially when you are a people pleaser. Do not recommend.

I've been thinking of building another home that I can look at from mine. Then I'd grow resentful of it, staring at it from my porch thinking of the pomp and finery they have over there.

I only own a home because I was lucky enough to have a little money at the very bottom of the housing market in 2011. It’s a small house(1100sq. ft), an old house(1940) and in a ‘meh’ neighborhood in a town that people look down because the poors live there. But it’s a solidly built bungalow with a 2-car detached garage and a peaceful yard and it’s mine. I feel vaguely guilty at times because the younger people aren’t going to have the opportunity that I did. I paid less for it than a fancy pickup truck costs these days. Even if the housing market crashed, landlords would just buy these houses and charge exorbitant rent, it wouldn’t help young homebuyers.

thanks to the market deeming my starter home to be worth 60% more than when I got it, it's evolved into a fancy coffin with AC.

Owning a home is fun because you can say things like “today I will finally fix the railing on the back porch” and then the water heater leaks water all over the floor and you put off fixing the railing for another week.

On the other hand, after enough time you get around to doing enough projects that doing things like putting new wash lighting in. We still need to install a bunch more plants and modify the overall design, this is more kind of a rough in, but we are slowly moving towards having the backyard like we want it.
