Pennsylvania is on the lips of many because it (seems?) to be a purple state which reminded me about how many times I hear about Philadelphia from the current/former residents that live there. There seems to be a sort of love for this city but also im not sure if its like “ahh yeah this is my home” or “this is actually a really good city” So, current or past residents of Philadelphia: what’s it like? My only frame of reference is Los Angeles, CA and Berlin, DE so please be mindful to draw relevant comparisons.

Good spot for going to see Indian movies and just being in a theater full of people going absolutely apeshit

The movies will literally have spots designed for it to pause for a few seconds so the audience can have a moment to lose their minds lol, it happens all the time when a character suddenly pops in and it's a huge Indian moviestar.

the queer district has some good bars and restaurants. the city hall citadel seems like it was designed for the seat of a fascist empire, and there's a huge weird old pipe organ in the department store next door. don't go on touristing the Kensington Avenue zombie safari, it's not right. looking at old pictures, seems like it was once a great city.

filthiest city I've ever stayed in, loud until past 3 am, alleyways that undulate and breathe because they are wall to wall covered in cock roaches, and rats scurry about your feet. What do you want to know about it. Love the mutter museum especially.

I haven't been in like 10 years (it was awesome) but their new executive director is poo poo (I have worked for her, not at Mutter) and was making all sorts of terrible changes and she was blaming the staff.

Yeah, it's an ethically fraught area of inquiry for sure. Overall I'd say philly would be a good place for a Frankenstein to live, or maybe if you have an Adams family or Munsters type household, others beware

Reading Terminal Market is just the best. I miss that bitch so hard. With all the Amish people and their amazing pastries and the chinese food stalls next to fish markets and the scrapple diner. I miss Philly so much sometimes, but drat does it smell bad there. First thing I noticed when I moved away: Philly 👏 smells 👏gross 👏

I’ve never been there but some day I’m gonna do an east coast US road trip and I wanna go to sheetz and wawa. And the freaky museum I guess. I’m mostly in this for how attached Americans get to their convenience stores.
