That was just classic Canadian humor, we actually love it when people track mud and dirt all over our rugs and carpets just like our neighbours to the south do

Ok but do Canadians not clean their houses? Shoes provide support and are good for your posture, I wouldnt wear shoes to bed but doing chores around my house it makes sense

Next time you go to a public bathroom, look at the floor. You wanted to walk around their home and cover it with piss residue and stray pubes? Plus all the other poo poo we can't see...like poo poo particles. Plus everything else you stepped in, like spit puddles and airport grime. And you expect them to be OK with that and the notion of putting their bare feet on it in the morning.

What's wrong with walking around in your socks anyway?

But they do, its just a floor and if youre vacuuming and mopping regularly its fine, feet are gross I think its perfectly normal and acceptable to have them covered

Depends where you are. When my sister moved from bumfuck Sask. to Toronto, I think the first thing I asked her after she got settled is if she saw the legendary bagged milk in the stores out there. It's as weird to western Canadians as it is to Americans.

People who have to wear shoes inside are just telling on themselves that they're apparently used to frequenting the grosses loving houses imaginable where piss and poo poo is regularly everywhere on the floors.

Respect peoples' homes and take your shoes off.

No I do wear clean socks but I just think its more appropriate to wear your shoes say on the main floor of someones house as I expect everyone is like me and regularly cleans their main floor

Like if someone tells me to take my shoes off I assume they dont clean their house on a regular basis

Dude, take your shoes off at every opportunity you get. So much more comfortable if you are sitting at a desk or walking around the house.
At a previous job I worked at a desk, computer stuff and helping customers on the phone, 8+ hours a day. I eventually decided to untie my shoes, let them be a bit a loose and it was a lot more comfortable for the day. Soon I was just kicking them straight off first thing at start of day. Socks stayed on, but otherwise just cruising around with no shoes.

If we had the occasional walk-in customer, it was agreed that you should throw your shoes on before greeting them. This went sideways more than once with "Yup I got it." and then meeting them in your socks. Apparently this does not appear "professional".
