none of them are real. you only think you saw them.

The Star Wars movies and shows are real and strong and most of them are my friends. No, not you, Rise of Skywalker. Never you.

Anyone who wants to play a fine, prequel-rear end experience: Baten Kaitos HD collection. The story and the general design philosophy are pretty explicitly similar but without being too derivative either.

what does that even mean

Cease to Hope posted:what does that even mean I'm assuming that was posted in the wrong thread because like 30 seconds on a search engine tells me its some anime RPG card video game I have never heard of, and I have no idea what that has to do with star wars movies. Or maybe FunkyAl is just hopped up on goofballs.

It's kinda star warsy in the way most jrpgs are star warsy, freedom force fighting against a high tech empire stuff, but the neoclassical/Renaissance visual design, analogues to pre-war Europe, presence of an evil emperor, and the fact that the sequel is a prequel, reminds me of the prequels. It's just good stuff folks, and you heard it here first.

i played the first baten kaitos game, it just left no impression on me other than very generic JRPG that was part of a shortlived card-battler RPG fad

Episode I was a fun kids' movie and that is the best thing Star Wars can be. 2 and 3 were worse because they stopped trying to be kids' movies.

Any movie is a kids movie if you show it to a kid.

Meantime, the Lego Batman movie is for adults because I was an adult when it was released.

When I tried to get my Star Wars a kid was holding the last copy of it and I told him he couldn't take anything from that aisle unless he was with his parents so he went to go get them and I took his Star Wars and bought it heh heh

Just a perfect kid's show, mixing Treasure Island with the Goonies, but in the Star Wars universe. Capturing that vibe of fun, simple, exciting kid's adventures that just hasn't been around for the longest time.

all RPGs are Star Wars prequels or sequels. some are just more honest about it than others (eg KOTOR)

the fact that a significant amount of the movie is pretty juvenile doesn't make it a kids' movie

banned from Starbucks posted:What exactly makes something "not a kids movie" in your eyes? idk, really. i'm not invested especially in whether any given prequel is a kids' movie. there definitely do exist movies that are juvenile or childish at times that aren't particularly well-suited to kids. logically, that means juvenalia is necessary(?) but not sufficient for a movie to be a kids' movie.

banned from Starbucks posted:What exactly makes something "not a kids movie" in your eyes? I think "what does/doesn't make something a kids movie" is a combination of intent and execution with the creation, with the intent probably being the most defining factor. If you set out to make a kids movie, then it is. It might not be "appropriate for all ages" or even at all depending on the execution, especially if the execution fails. If a movie wasn't planned as a kids movie but is kid appropriate, it's still not a "kids movie" just "fine for kids". Speaking towards movies in general, usually it's pretty obvious what they were going for, sometimes not so much and it's a little more tricky especially with movies that look to be for kids on the surface but end up being pretty dark, which is for some reason fairly common. Or the much more common "kids movies that are good for adults" usually because of some humor thrown in. Then you get stuff like these movies where I don't feel like I can even trust the revisionist words coming straight from George Lucas when he claims what he was going for or was thinking.
