I've only ever flown domestically so I've never even had a proper meal on a plane since I was like a couple of years old and they phased that out. How do you handle 10 hr+ flights? Doesn't your rear end really hurt eventually? I would probably try to get a xanax hookup so I could sleep the whole time.

It really depends on the airline and plane. It's good on Emirates. Qantas is fine. Air Canada is a fuckman.

I always go aisle seat and make sure to move around every couple of hours and to hydrate like crazy. I generally avoid salty snacks even though I crave them like crazy when I fly. I find they make me feel puffy for a day or two after I've landed. I don't really find myself getting bored or anxious unless there is prolonged turbulence over the middle of the Pacific, which can be a little nerve-wracking.

I try to have a few drinks in the airport beforehand and then usually ask the drinks cart for two glasses of wine with dinner, and they'll always oblige on long flights. Two glasses of red and the in-flight meal and I'm usually asleep within an hour.

Emirates will give you unlimited booze even in a standard seat which seems like a good idea but I'd recommend against getting blotto in the air.

If you have a layover, which I often do in the US, its great to have lounge access and a shower before continuing on to your final destination.

Overall, I enjoy the experience of being in airports and on planes as a solo traveler. You get to occupy these liminal spaces and effectively be "nowhere" for a period of time, which I find a certain amount of comfort in.

There are apps now that help you shift your sleep schedule and I'd recommend these but YMMV.

What's airline food like these days? Is it still stereotypically bad?

A buddy of mine was on a flight from lax to Australia several years ago when a large group of men got on with ridiculous body odor. Lady behind him threw a fit to the point where tsa removed her by force from the plane. He toughed it out, not sure I would.

Air Emirates is good for long flights. Nice airline and good food.

I did the LA -> Tokyo one once, but I think I slept most of it.

Not as bad as I remember it as a kid in the late 90s. Again, it depends on the airline. Air France does some decent simple meals like a baguette with a slice of smoked salmon and some Vache-qui-rit spread cheese.

The key with the airline food is just to muscle it all down and not think too much about it. It will help you sleep getting a hot meal in you and your taste buds are compromised at altitude anyway. Its rarely gross just usually kind of bland.

The business class stuff isn't all that much better.

I typically just avoid eating on any flight under 6 hours and just trying to snack and hydrate. The airline meals are loaded with sodium.

I got a real knife with one of the meals from Sydney to London, post 9/11.

Fine. They tend to give you hourly drink service, and you can drink until you pass out and wake up when it lands

depends on the airline, and to some extent, where you're flying to, and from. was on a flight from japan to australia, and the food was very good. i don't do much flying these days, but idk i wouldnt be bothered, i've got my switch, i can pop on headphones and zone the rest of the people out. x hours in a reasonably comfy seat isnt much different from my day-to day.

I flew 15 hrs from Sydney to LA, brief change and another 5 to New York....it was OK, I guess I was fairly excited so that took some of the boredom away. I bought myself some really good noise cancelling headphones, so even though I was \ near the engine, I didn't hear poo poo....just listened to Music, watched whatever was on the screen and occasionally talked to people. The flight times were kind of good so I tried to tell myself it was like an extra long trip to somewhere i.e. left at around 8.30am Monday Sydney time and arrived around 4.30pm Monday New York time - on the way back I think we skipped Tuesday completely.

I do not masturbate; I FIGHT!
I have family in New Zealand, so pretty much the only times I fly it is a 13 hour flight. On the way there I take a massive dose of THC and hopefully sleep most of the time. On the way back I just watch movies and tv. If I'm lucky I might sleep for 2-4 hours. It kinda sucks but its not too bad.

Just like Mama used to make it!
I was usually have a whisky sour, maybe two, at the bar before I check in to security. Then take edibles (20,40mg, depends on the flight), in the bathroom, get in line, and am asleep once we are at cruising altitude.
