I still contend that Harry Potter probably influenced a ton of anime/manga over the years. While many aspects that define it existed in anime/manga before HP got big, it feels that a lot more of what comes after is built directly off of the Potter framework. Naruto seemingly got a better 'lifestyle' choice in the US for a few years compared to Harry Potter. Maybe because it was 'jitsu' and not 'magic', parents seemed cool with their middle and high school kids getting more obsessive with that and places doing stuff like 'ninja classes' to teach tumbling and gymnastics and do some running around in themed outfits. I never saw anyone offering a 'summer Witches and Wizards' course for kids that taught them basic alchemy (chemistry), spells (Latin), and magical botony (learn to grow a plant in a cup).

I don't think that plot line is ever brought up again after all the characters become friends and there's no point where they mention those characters are no longer slaves they just aren't anymore because Naruto had more plot holes than Lost did

American comics are a million times more ridiculous than anime in terms of ridiculous desperate plot stuff because there's isn't a marvel or DC or even Vertigo in Japan where all the characters play around canonically and die and are resurrected and immortal and have a million universes they can switch to if plot points don't fit right. The closest anime gets to that is like crossover video games Anime doesn't have Luffy kill Ichigo because he cheated on him with Lina Inverse in the zombie dimension because American comics are more insane and interconnected than anything else on the planet
