The RetroAchievements bit is stupid and unfunny but it is really funny seeing cumpantry get weirdly mad about people not liking it

they can dislike it for better reasons than brainless sweeping assumptions

You're so deprived of dopamine and approval that beating Mother Brain isn't satisfying in itself anymore, you need a computer to give you headpats.

i can half see the appeal but i feel like people who use it have this compulsion to sculpt a lot of how they play retro games around it and that's not great for a program inherently limited in its possible support where you often have significantly better options or may just be better off with more niche ones that retroachievements can't cover. like it feels weird seeing people emulate games on it that have pc versions that are by default better and where if you're going to play the original version the only real reason to do that would be to play them on the original hardware itself because now emulation is putting you somewhere between a less accurate experience but also one more poorly tailored for the system you're using

RA is a fun lil bonus for doing something you already wanted to do in playing old games but I'm not so sure it's ever really gonna be a motivator for me to play more old games. Nintendo doesn't really do cheevos the same way but I've had no issues picking up some switch 1/2 games for a long session. Not quite the same thing, I know.

i'm not even talking about pc ports that cost money i'm talking about community ones like the jak, mario, zelda and sonic ports

fair again though this comes back to the diff in being a part of a community and playing in isolation. if it was someones first time playing mario 64 i probably would direct them to the pc port but for someone who's gone through it a half dozen times, why not try with some challenges hanging overhead?
i think in game cheevos that reward you with goodies or art etc are cool. not a fan of external cheevos like ra/steam/etc. happy for anyone who enjoys

(25) (148) Defeat all the mini-bosses at the secret path in 7-2 without taking damage (No Stone, No Tornado and No Throw) Just... JUST FIGHT ME!!!! (10) (46) Survive Meta-Knight attacks for 1 minute without hurting him and without flying etc it all comes down to the individual devs. for contrast, the amazing mirror set is extremely boring and is almost entirely 100% completion.

from what I gather retroachievements are community-made so this mostly just speaks to the quality of the fans making the cheevos

anyway a pretty obvious achievement for an FE would be 'complete the game without resetting when a character dies,' ie an ironman, but its hard for the tracker to see that ig

dont really have a cock in this squabble but I will say that doing the esoteric poo poo requested by the halo 3 achievements unlocked multiplayer cosmetics and same for the dead rising achievements unlocking op poo poo like the zero saber. cant help but think that if mega man x had achievements one would pop as soon as you unlocked the hadoken
