we also sometimes get ice storms at horrible times that are catastrophic, like that one ice storm in like 2011 that leveled entire forests because it happened in October before the trees had shed their leaves so just tore them all down. literally millions of trees downed overnight, my neighborhood was cut off from civilization for days because all the roads had huge trees across them. One of my coworkers, every single tree in his neighborhood got torn down, and took down all the power lines with them. They didn't get power for almost a month

Aquariums are wondrous, especially if they've got something cool like boston's big vertical tank.

Also, go to a butterfly garden sometime. They're also very cool. The one I go to has a little kiosk where they have all sorts of insane, exotic critters from around the world in the middle of all these gorgeous butterflies flitting about the garden

Dandadan is fantastic, the manga also has insanely good artwork. It's got UFOs versus cryptids, it's one of my big favorites

The anime is looking to be fantastic too, but won't cover some of the best parts of the series

I may go to the cinema tomorrow for transformers
the new transformers movie is surprisingly good, which is a nice change of pace from The Worst Dogshit Ever Put To Film like the last two decades of TF movies.

Well, bumblebee was alright, being essentially just The Iron Giant, and the Beast one is basically a tolerable Bay movie. But otherwise every bayverse movie was awful garbage.

But yeah the new one, it goes hard for a supposed kids movie. The fight scenes are excellent, with lots of fights involving using transforming as offensive or defensive maneuvers, like Orion Pax wrapping his legs around the dude he's fighting, then transforming just his lower half so the 180 degree hip swivel part of the transformation tears them in half

Optimus and megatron are the stars of the show and deserve it, they have great chemistry, and while I do agree the ending feels kind of rushed, I think where it ends off on is a perfect setup for future entries. Definitely hope it does well so we get more in this universe, it being fully animated works infinitely better than live action.

hey I cobbled together a bigger list for this post, was going to message it to you on steam but you haven't been on in a long time. this is assuming you've been out of reading manga for like half a decade, most of these are from within the last five years or were only just getting started before then

Ruridragon - girl finds out she is a dragon-human hybrid, goes to school, lives normal everyday life instead of becoming some weird science experiment. excellent
Oshi No Ko - about the superstar idol, Ai, and her two children, Ruby and Aqua. often goes into how hosed up a given industry is.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - the hero party defeated the demon lord. now the nigh-immortal elf of the party continues on her own journey after her comrades are gone.
DANDADAN - are you familiar with Dandadan? (one of my favorite series ever)
Dragon Road - did you like the brutal struggle to survive of the early parts of So I'm A Spider, So What? then this is for you, has a very neat stark black and white art style to it too. only a handful of chapters got translated for years but relatively recently has been picked up again
Heterogenia Linguistico: An Introduction to Interspecies Linguistics - one of the flat out most fascinating series I've ever read. A linguist travels among societies of monsters, from werewolves to minotaurs to harpies and beyond, and learns their languages, societal decisions, and methods of travel and cooking. I liken it to Dungeon Meshi, but much more mundane in its day-to-day.
Kaiju Girl Caramelise - a series where a girl turns into godzilla when she has strong feelings, and tries to live a normal life and have relationships despite that.
Magilumiere Co. Ltd - magical girls are real, and adults, and are a major corporate industry to control Kaii spirit outbreaks.
DOGSRED - the creator of Golden Kamuy retries making the manga he always wanted to: one about professional ice hockey. This one seems to be actually doing pretty well, apparently his first one years ago didn't.
Nick and Lever - fuckin looney toons-rear end motherfuckers
Maid Skater - you know that guy on twitter who is always drawing the skateboarding maids? well now they have a manga! they only release one chapter every like six months though.
My Wife Has No Emotion - set on the cusp of robotic self-actualization, where a guy marries a housewife robot and has a robot child. Has some genuinely amazing arcs and ideas about a society like this, and also some real bad ones(such as anything to do with aliens or ghosts).
THUNDER-3 - a group of characters from a crayon shin-chan or whatever style gag manga go through a portal into a hyperrealistic earth conquered by aliens, and find they are basically Superman. Fun juxtaposition, also apparently like the series "Gantz", though I've never read that.
The Faraway Paladin - easily one of the best fantasy series I've ever read. Is an isekai, but barely references it, it's mostly used as a "your past life was poo poo. live this one to the fullest" kicking off point.
The Eminence in Shadow - guy is the epitome of chuuni, dies, reincarnates in a world where all of his chuuni poo poo is real and played straight. utterly absurd, very funny
Chainsaw Man - a world where devils are real and fear powers them. insane, brilliant series
The Ideal Sponger Life - guy gets abducted by the queen of another world in order to bear his children. Sounds extremely fanservicey, but winds up being mostly about dealing with the politics of that world lol. surprisingly good
Knight of the Frontier, Bard Loen - an old retired knight goes on a journey to find his final resting place. Brilliant, gorgeous artwork, wonderful characters, great storytelling, an incredible series.
Yakuza Reincarnation - an elderly Yakuza drowns while fighting some thugs, wakes up in the body of a young princess who is forced to flee her kingdom. a gorgeous, unique fantasy world with wonderful, bewildering artwork.
ZATCH BELL! 2 - The sequel to Zatch Bell!!!!!! IT' REALLY loving GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sister and Giant - A devoutly religious girl awakens in another world, finding a lost giant girl and adopting her as her "sister". One of the more interesting isekai settings, where otherworlders are not only common, but used as resources by the society there.
Isekai MYNOGHRA - an interesting take on isekai where the main character is basically controlling an RTS, and there's a high likelihood other "players" are controlling other genres of "game" in this world
Gori-sen: A Manga About a Stereotypical PE Teacher Who Dies at the Start of a School Horror Movie - Gori-sen is the character who always dies to show the stakes in a horror movie. Except this one doesn't. a pretty hilarious series, art isn't amazing but it gets the job done
Volundio - Divergent Sword Saga - did you like Helck? You Should Read This. Did you not read Helck yet? READ HELCK
Speedrunner Isekai - a speedrunner gets isekai'd into his favorite game. He proceeds to break it in hilarious ways, as you do
Spy x Family - Loid Forger is a spy. Yor Forger is an assassin. Anya Forger is a telepathic little girl. Set in their world's Cold War, neither Loid nor Yor know of each other's real profession, but Anya does.
Any Sufficiently Advanced Medical Science Is Indistinguishable From Magic - a doctor is isekai'd to a world controlled by a healing magic church, and proceeds to perform proper medical procedures on the denizens of that world. An example of a niche isekai where the author actually knows what they're talking about. Fun to see a surgeon do proper procedures while operating to remove a harpoon that's impaled in the side of a chimera. Also, the art is GORGEOUS.
Is It Odd That I Became an Adventurer Even If I Graduated From the Witchcraft Institute? - one of the most powerful graduates from wizard school decided to go adventuring instead of becoming a proper court wizard. Everyone think's he's crazy. You know that one "but I don't want to cure cancer, I want to turn people into dinosaurs" meme? It's kinda like that. Fantastic characters, fantastic humor.
Heavenly Delusion - Maru and Kiruko travel across a devastated post-apocalyptic Japan, scrounging for supplies and surviving against both human and abominations on their journey to find "Heaven". But what IS Heaven?
Mieruko-chan - incredible horror-comedy series, genuinely fantastic. I loved the one-shots the author did before the serialization, but I am genuinely surprised they managed to both manifest those into a proper series, and also keep it this amazing for this long.
My Dress-up Darling - Gojou is a high school boy who likes Hina Dolls. One day he meets Marin, a gyaru who wants his help in crafting her cosplay outfits. Super cute romcom, great characters, some real good twists too.

one thing I do like about bumble is that at least you can just make a one-time purchase for all the premium features and that's that. is it stupid pricey to do that? yeah and it sucks, but all other dating apps have become way more stupid with the way they've escalated their subscription pricing too.
the $200 thing? I decided to go with that yeah because OKCupid's ultra premium deal back in the day was $150 a year, so $200 for lifetime isn't bad. and it does give it much more utility, and also does give you some weekly perks. however, it also doesn't stop it from constantly pushing you to buy the neverending microtransactions for boosts and "comments" and poo poo like that. it also still doesn't have some search options I would like, like being able to hide(or specify!) certain options people can pick, that sort of thing. the search is decent, but nowhere near what it should be imo. also, bots are definitely a problem(on any dating app, really), and clicking "verified only" just results in me getting like 5 results before it starts giving me results in fuckin timbuktu or brazil.

also I don't like the future the CEO wants to take the app with in regards to AI

will never forget the super cute girl who I kept bumping into and chatting with about nerd poo poo a bunch and would like, sneak up behind me and "boo!" me over the course of the weekend at PAX one year, and pretty sure was trying to get my number but I am too dense to recognize someone doing that and then never saw her again

but yeah definitely found some amazing folks at conventions before. it helps having a conversation piece to stand out with, like I would lug this fuckin 4 foot long thing around at PAX:

and tons of people would just walk up to chat because of it

but also, like, I am extremely introverted and can hold a conversation fine, but get exhausted just from talking to people. pretty sure there's a comic of that striped shirt gremlin webcomic I forget the name of that perfectly represents exactly that

for me the only real competition it might have is Bumblebee. I will try to see Transformers One sometime in the next week or so, I'm curious.
try to pay particular attention during the action scenes, there's so many little things going on during the fights after they get their transformation cogs. since they don't have human anatomy or restrictions on mobility, you get things like spin kicking a dude and then twirling on the hip swivel to whirlwind kick a second dude within a fraction of a second of the first kick

and there's always the good ol' "transform into a truck and just hit a motherfucker"

definitely a movie where it follows the "if it's not human, anything goes" rule though. some truly gnarly deaths just because they're mechanical and not biological.

Alien Nine was one of the more stressful things I’ve seen this year, because you know something hosed up is eventually gonna happen. But in the end there’s only alien gore, and it’s not that graphic. Still plenty unsettling.

It’s one of those short OVAs that only gives you a taste of the manga’s story. It doesn’t even begin to address any of its mysteries.
I remember watching it on...I think it was comcast's on demand thing like 20 years ago, had a selection of weird poo poo. Like a scifi anime of Moby Dick where Moby Dick is a gigantic cyborg spaceship whale.

But yeah Alien Nine was really hosed up to have on there in the same list as like, sailor moon and digimon.
