Bregman is despised in NY and on the downside of his career with his hitting getting worse every season. As an Astros fan I want him back for mostly sentimental reasons. Combine that with how he's a slow starter and you have a recipe for Yankees fans being absolutely seething by mid May

Are the Cubs really going to keep a AA guy on their roster all season who they can't send down?

Popete posted:Parades and Seiya are both under team control for cheap. That is absolutely a horrendous trade for a 1 year rental of Kyle Tucker. FWIW the actual Rosenthal article says Seiya is probably off the table and the interest in him is from Houston's side quote:Suzuki might be out of reach for the Astros. A league source said that the Cubs are highly unlikely to move him, and they seemingly prefer to deal first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger in a separate trade. I would very happily move Parades for Tucker; flipping him to a team where his batted ball profile actually makes sense is probably the best-case scenario for his Cubs career

Yeah the dude will hit like 40+ bombs a year if he gets to play 81 games at Minute Maid or whatever the gently caress they're calling it now meanwhile he profiles kinda poorly at Wrigley. It makes a ton of sense so there's no way Jed pulls the trigger.

None of those reports seem to suggest any real interest from the Yankees or Cubs. At least beyond “yeah we’d like Tucker”. It’s just a list of Houston’s wants. I dunno. This whole thing just feels like a team manipulating the media at the winter meetings bar to try and create a blockbuster trade out of innuendo and pressure.

Sydin posted:If the Cubs need to eat salary to move Cody then imo they should just keep Cody. Agreed. Between Happ, PCA, Seiya, Belli, and Busch someone is probably gonna be dinged up or slumping for most of the year so keeping them all is fine imho. Now if they get a haul for Belli or Seiya so much the better, but I really don't like the narrative that they "need" to move a bat. Also happy that none of these rumors is mentioning Nico ![]()

Seattle was apparently pretty interesting in Nico but if the Cubs move Paredes I don't think they can afford to also move Nico.

From Megan Montemurro, Cubs beat writer:quote:Jed Hoyer today on Seiya Suzuki: "I've got a great relationship with both Seiya and (his agent Joel Wolfe). We've had conversations about his role, DHing, all those things, but ultimately, he's a really good player. I expect him to be a Cub."

if you sign Bregman you're not paying for his on field talent you're really going after the institutional Can Banging knowledge
