Is it just me or is this the dumbest supposedly “profound” question ever?

Like, yes, a sound wave is produced. That’s literally how physics loving works, it doesn’t matter if anyone heard it.

Imagine someone being like “I turned the light in the bathroom on but the switch is in the hallway and no one is in there, so who can say if the light is really on or not?”

You would rightfully think they were a moron.

What the hell?

Mom says I'm too old for Shrek. Tell her she better check herself before she Shrek's herself. Mom asks if I've taken my meds. I say yes, then ask for an onion flavored cake. Mom says no. I call her a Farquaad bitch.
It's a Zen question op it doesn't need an answer other than the one you provide

a tree falling makes energy that some animals perceive as "sound". If they are not around then the energy is not sound.

do asteroids crashing into each other in space make a sound?? idiot.

Titanohyrax is an extinct genus of large to very large hyrax from the Eocene and Oligocene. Some species are estimated to have been as large as the modern rhinoceros. Estimates of body mass range from 600 kg (1,300 lb) to 1,300 kg (2,900 lb).

Relatedly, chickens don't often cross roads, for whatever chicken reasons. So when one does, it's a big deal and worthy of contemplation.

if you want to be really technical about it, the premise is impossible. any tree that falls in a forest will, be definition, be heard by the forest inhabitants. woodland creatures, insects, birds, trout, all essential parts of what makes a forest a forest.

Pretty sure they asked this before they had invented physics. They thought seeing was done with eye beams and stuff.

Also, yeah, waves may be produced, but not a sound. That's the brain's interpretation of the waves. You could then wonder if you hear the same sound I do. Same as is your blue the same as my blue?

Just like Mama used to make it!
Wait this is one of those trick questions right?

The forest is actually on another planet with a different atmosphere which would affect sound waves.

Why even fall? That would be a waste of processing power when you could just update the local state to the aftermath whenever an observer returns to that location.
