If you are posting in GBS, and know about the state of Maine, well I reckon this here is where you belong.

I know Maine is *Real New England* and is almost Canada.

I also know that Connecticut is the biggest impostor state in New England.

i was in maine recently. i was visiting my parents in massachusetts and drove up to portland for the night, we ate some very good italian food and wandered around the town then on the way back the next day we stopped in a town called ogunquit and i had some fried local haddock that was quite tasty.

but more importantly, and im sorry if this counts as doxxing (?), but i parked in front of this person, and it did make me think of you redshirt

Interesting that RI is ranked below us.

The southwest corner of CT is almost NY.

i also know about christopher knight who lived in the woods and survived by breaking into people’s cabins and stole their food while they weren’t home. he got away with it for 27 years. that’s kinda cool tbh.

Very cool. I MAY - I want to emphasize the word MAY - have met him, in his forest, back in the day. If I did it was extremely briefly and I dealt with him like I dealt with any/every local in the forest - GOOD DAY SIR

Portland’s a great little town. I was there in September for the PoutineFest.

I like Maine lobsters. But not the gross green squishy parts.

Nonetheless I enjoy going to lobster places that look shady for delicious sea roaches.

That's freaking wild - seriously. I myself was "living" in the woods at the same time in the same area, for much the same reasons if I have read him correctly. His story is kinda my story - from the 90's, mind you. A COMPLETELY different era.

that’s rad dude. have you ever talked about it on here? i’d like to hear about it. i would go on kayaking/fishing trips and wonder how long i could survive in the woods if i just decided to. all i had with me was weed and beer at the time and i don’t like fish so i would have died quickly.

I have been to Bar Harbor and camped near Moosehead lake where I appropriately saw a moose. Two different trips. Was nice, would recommend.

Maybe, and if I have I doubt anyone remembers. There's not much to tell, I was exploring the entire area at the time he was hermiting on that lake, I was definitely in the woods around that lake a few times and I remember encountering a dude off in the woods - I waved, he waved back, that was the extent of it (on purpose from my part - encountering someone in the forest was always a strange and nervous encounter, because odds are they are not hiking). Maybe? It might have been some other random dude in the woods.

I came across a couple of active pot grows in the forest back in the day and that was the kind of forest stress I mean.

Maine has (or once had) close relations with the maritime provinces, and, I think most would say unfortunately, with Quebec.

9/11 changed this to some degree, because before that you could go back and forth over the border very easily - just needed a license. Now you need a passport, and that put a damper on it.
