This was a really good track, better than the previous Noel Gallagher collab on Dig Your Own Hole, but I was way more into Asleep from Day because it introduced me to Hope Sandoval and her omg dreamy vocals—I was only obliquely aware of Mazzy Star before that. Yet it wouldn’t be for another 20-ish years before I started getting high and appreciating her voice in that state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IYW4JZmZ9E When I first downloaded this track from… one of those fileshare things, it was a different version, labeled “Lo-Fidelity Allstars feat. Pigeonhed”; instead of the “yes we aim to please” refrain toward the end, they repeated “new production of a new breed/leaders, stand up, organize”. I was disappointed at first because it wasn’t what I was used to, but I came to prefer it heavily over the more commonly known version. I lost the mp3 in a hard drive crash and I haven’t been able to find it since, apart from a censored video on YouTube, apparently it was the original mix released on Skint Records, and all most people have heard was the Lo-Fi Allstars remix; I’m still really bummed out about whole thing, more than 20 years later. [edit] hm, there is also what appears to be the original version of the track that’s just Pigeonhed without Lo-Fi Allstars. I like it, but it’s kinda disjointed and all over the place, like the original Lo-Fi mix was a good bridge between it and the remix we’re all familiar with. Also, fun fact, Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil did quite a bit of work with Pigeonhed, including on the album Battleflag was on (but not that track), which also featured Jerry Cantrell and Reggie Watts. I was at a comics/record shop one day in November ‘99, when I just kinda stumbled into it without knowing about its existence, so I bought it on a whim and then kept it in heavy rotation for months after that. Technically this is from 1998, but the fact an Australian band's song about a customisable sex doll became a major radio hit here is  . I remember it being played constantly when it first came out, as I had just entered high school. Regurgitator had some banger tracks with "cool/weird music videos by 1990s standards" too.
