They just listened to the latest ep of All This For 10 Dollars and despite MLYP, the host, accepting its tenuous, they have not. To be fair it's an interesting series of dominos but I dint think it's the only reason why history turned out the way it did. Anyways listen to that podcast, it's not run by known pwrmabanned transphobe brain rot haver, guy mann. It's a good podcast if you missed out on major events and goldmine threads and want the summary instead of reading 100 plus page threads. Like if that's your thing.

Hello,
I've been wanting to do something like this for a while and I have a bit of spare time now, so I've started a podcast about SA Sagas, Lore, Stories, and Legends. It's always been my favourite part of the forums to read about, and i figured it was time to start documenting some of it

The show's name:
All This For 10 Dollars
Social: https://bsky.app/profile/10bux.bsky.social
New Spotify Link - https://open.spotify.com/show/3gUsKVLULWZdv0QvhbRAQL
New RSS - https://anchor.fm/s/100398374/podcast/rss
The show's genre: Comedy / History
Release schedule: Sporadic for now - Aiming for once every two weeks

A brief description of what your show's all about

"Knowledge Fight for Lowtax's dead gay comedy Forum is a great pitch" - Anonymous.

All This For 10 Dollars aims to faithfully retell some of the last 25 years of Something Awful history - piecing together old knowledge, lost images and the faulty memories of rapidly aging goons. I will be covering SA Lore, Sagas, Stories & Legends as best I can.
I've been reading a lot, writing a lot, and digging around in a LOT of the wayback machine and found a bunch of old forgotten texts and images.

I've got two episodes up at the moment - A quick pilot looking at the time someone (maybe) died burning a KFC 11 Herbs & Spices Firelog, and a 20+ Minute look into the RIPline, I've managed to find a bunch of wayback machine text that no-ones seemed to have covered after the OP deleted everything so It was cool to talk about

Bonus: It's not a SA Lore Podcast run by Guy Mann

edit: I think i've got a more solid idea of the style I want this to be in - Third times the charm but the next one should hopefully be the first real heater

I believe he's mentioned elsewhere that Guy Mann has come after him for daring to host his own "history of SA" podcast.

Not so much a single story as a gift that kept on giving, much like herpes, but BFC superstar Zaurg would continually gently caress his life up, both financially and otherwise. He'd ask BFC for advice about what to do, and then either out of undiagnosed oppositional defiant disorder (or shortsighted impulsive thinking) do the opposite, or do the advised thing and then screw it up somehow. I seem to remember there were five threads total, spanning a decade or so. My first memory was Zaurg and his then-wife went to credit counseling or budgeting class or something, and then celebrated by going to Five Guys and getting the works. ("We need to celebrate being austere" or something like that.) The last I remember was Zaurg wondering if he should get ferrets as pets for his kids when he was on the verge of being able to save money each month after downsizing from a giant house to a condo. I followed and unfollowed him over the years, before I permanently lost track of his thread sometime before Covid. I just couldn't keep going back for more.

He wasn't going to die like Muerte or molest kids like Aatrek or whatever, he was just somehow destined to keep hitting himself in his financial balls with a claw hammer, and could never really grok that he had to make sacrifices to get out of the hole he was in.

Both of these always had so much effort put into them and were wonderful to read.

Completely forgot about that. Zaurg's wife was actively toxic and a spendthrift (she made Z look like the financially responsible one; lots of stories there). So the first thing Zaurg did after getting a divorce was start running and then having sex with women he met at races, so he had far more game (or was a far better liar) then your stereotypical goon. (Actually, the first thing he did after he started running was use scissors to cut a plantar wart off his foot, but I digress.) I vaguely remember that one of his arguments for keeping the oversized house was "what if I want to move my girlfriend in?" but I could be misremembering that.

Very true. Zaurg was valuable in that in the early days of his megathreads before his deal was figured out, patient goons would provide detailed & well written summaries of prudent ways to get a financial house in order, and as his threads got more popular they raised awareness of what a fantastic resource BFC can be. Great posters who aren’t trying to scam or sell anything but will patiently explain differences in retirement plans.

I think it was the old "Mod Challenges" that drew me in, and maybe we don't look back too fondly on them today.
They just added a touch of consequence and thrill you know, and the consequence if you failed was to not be able to post for a while or on your account anymore and man so many lose their minds about probations to this day.

And then there was 14inch and his methhead automotive saga that seemed an incredible series of events being told and documented and I kept F5'ing the threads for whatever came next. Then the worst thing happened, and it happened so abrubtly and any reason was so vague and nondescript I was left feeling a bit snubbed and going "Wait what was the bad thing" but all the threads got locked. We know what happened now, sort off.

And the nightmare roommate and bachelor pad threads, those were so unbelievably crazy and revolting and descriptive. Not alot of pictures to document the insanity, but if I ever saw a bathtub filled with actual human poo poo I would simply take a photo while vomiting uncontrollably. Why was there so many stories involving feces!
There was ONE photo though of a couch covered in poo poo stains caused by some dude with IBS that would just, plonk down, bare rear end'ed, on this light grey cloth couch. Just incredible.

In a way this feels like a kind of performance of what SA was like forever ago, when we were freaks and goons were more often than not a special kind of basement troll with mushrooms growing out of their walls and regular medical emergencies as a part of their biweekly showers like... what was the goon who had weird poo poo (not "poo poo" poo poo, but something that shouldn't be there) falling out of his rear end? I know that's really vague but I cant think of another way to write it.
