Forgive me if this has been done before, but I’m wondering about the religious makeup of gbs.

As for me, I’m an atheist. Mainly because there’s no solid evidence for god existing.

Also, if your religion is some weird new religious movement, try to explain it’s beliefs too.

edit: sorry, i take that back. you're trying to have a serious discussion. but i'll just say if you're atheist or not religious, try tappin that rear end as a supplement to your material view of the world

Tappin' rear end is more of a general life philosophy than a religion, and I believe most of us here subscribe to it.

Because my grandparents on my father's side were in this actual, ridiculous "Catholic V Protestant" madness, they agreed to ditch religion entirely back in 1945 and thus my father was raised religion free, and I was then blessed with an almost entirely religious free upbringing. Never a word, never a church. I only knew about religion from what I gleaned at school or from TV.

In retrospect this is one of the greatest blessings I was given.

Invent your own bullshit and then keep it to yourself.

We all need a little bullshit to function without living in constant existential terror. Atheism is too impractical, imho.

lol also this. I have my own personal religion - with rituals and high holidays, the works! But I don't talk about it to anyone. It's for me and me alone. Though I'd be happy to talk about it with anyone who asked. I guess.

I thought Discordianism was pretty cool when I was a young goon. I haven't thought about this in years and don't know what happened to my copy of Principia Discordia.

I was raised Catholic on account of being sent to a Catholic school as a child. Later, when my family began attending a Lutheran church, I thought it was pretty lame that Protestantism seemed to subtract all the macabre pageantry I had associated with Christianity.

I became an insufferable atheist as a teenager. I'm still atheist, but I like to think of myself as reasonably sufferable most of the time.

raised in catholic school, I kinda thought the ritual and silly outfits were sort of fun, and didn't actually mind the peaceful loving forgiving jesus figure that I was taught about. Seemed to me, it was a religion about helping everyone, especially the poor, and forgiving people for their mistakes. Later on I was informed religion actually means you hate people that are different and live in fear of judgement day. So I started getting much more into esoterica and Gnosticism(just because it's interesting, not as a belief system).

Religion is like a penis- It's fine that you got one and it's fine that you're proud of it, but please don't wave it out in public and don't attempt to ram it down our children's throats.

I do not wear this mask to protect me. I wear it to protect you from me.

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

The tldr: no hellfire, no trinity, no life after death until resurrected back to life. No unknowable mystery.

Reason why? It's a very logical reading of the Bible, which itself is the most logical of ancient books claiming to represent a creator.

My parents started going to meetings when I was twelve or thirteen but I was an adult before getting baptized. Before doing that I read thru the entire Bible and made sure that nothing was different or violated what I had been taught. Except for a weird account in Judges pretty every verse was one I had seen covered somewhere along the way.

I respect Jehovah's Witnesses because they walk the walk. For what that's worth, mind you. But still, a lack of overt hypocrisy is nice.

Once, long ago, I was hiking in the woods. And not on any trail, just hiking directly through the forest, on a directional heading. And something catches my eye, on the ground..... is that????

A Jack Chick tract, in perfect condition. Let me repeat and stress, I was in the middle of the forest, a mile or so from any road or path. And here's this little comic telling me how I will burn in Hell, let me stress, in perfect condition, like it was just set there on the ground an hour before I arrived. Weird, right? One might take it as a sign.

Not me though.

I have come to discourse on the profound inequities of the American political system.

God's either real and a sadist or God's not real at all. Buddhism is pretty cool IMO. No God or Gods required.

I'm not really sure except that I'm not an atheist. I think most religions have some sparks of truth but it got diluted and blotted by people using religion for power and controlling social order rather than worship of the divine. Ultimately we'll all find out in the end. Or not cuz we'll be dead.

I don't want to be rude to anyone religious itt with my explanation but I was raised in a protestant tradition and eventually determined that it had more negatives than positives and that I didn't believe its most important claims (or those of any other real religion) so I don't consider myself religious anymore
