i saw someone online complaining about "performative laughter" at a recent screening of Caligula and i was like... buddy i've seen Caligula, i don't think that laughter was performative.

Not sure it’s been mentioned yet but I recently watched Happiness…..and let me tell you that is the only movie I’ve ever watched that made me have to go and do something positive immediately after because……drat!

This is the one. After I watched it, I just sat and thought 'why would someone make this?'. I felt pretty similarly about the first half an hour or so of Hereditary and maybe it ends up really cheery, but I don't know because I switched it off and did something else instead.

Hereditary starts pretty grim but once you get to the back half you'll be laughing your head off.
