I used to use it back in college in '14-15 as a meme and fanart source, then I stopped for some unknown reason. then my squeeze told me he uses it and I decided to start browsing again only to see that all the accounts i followed back then haven't been updated in years. whats nice about this time is that there's word and tag filters so I can get a politics free experience, but im still having to find more people to follow that post memes or post shittily but funnily. I know bluesky is the current hotness rn but ughh im resistant to change. surely there's still something to be gained on tumblr?

I've never posted there, but my impression is that the remaining users are happy with its current state but worried that it's a money pit that will close as soon as Matt Mullenweg stops pouring money into it. No idea who to follow, though.

Tumblr is really good for science communication stuff, art, and creative writing, lots of grad students use it. It got fully sanitized of sex and politics in its post-porn phase, so it has a mild amount of educational value that other social media doesn't.
