They should remove the poop emoji. Or they should add a pee emoji, it's only fair. They can just recolor the water/blood drop one. They could add a green one too for snot. Maybe just fill out the whole rainbow like they did with the hearts.

text messages should just allow sending tiny inline images. the only reason not to was bandwidth and that jam's pretty much solved

it's just a better solution to smilies than emojis, where you have no way of knowing what the thing you send is gonna look like to the recipient, so they're bereft of nuance
but then the companies noticed emojis are bereft of nuance so they all just started copying apple's implementation pretty much across the board in a half-assed attempt to homogenize them for cross-platform clarity so e.g. pretty much all versions of the ghost emoji have shifted to apple's inexplicable :kickinrad: tongue-sticking-out asymmetrical-eyes arms-up "let's party" standard

but it's kind of the worst of both worlds because you can't really fix the fact that these older versions are still out there from people who just don't update their phone, and moreover these still just fundamentally don't convey the same shade of meaning. there's a reason we have :hai:

instead of the text description "a yellow smiley face with open eyes, a flat, closed mouth, and eyebrows turned downward, shaking its head up and down vertically" and every computer maker gets to decide what that looks like in their own imagination.

also, side note, don't let me stop you from having fun here, but the whole idea of unicode is they never remove anything
it's supposed to be a fixed standard, every future version of unicode is only additive, so it's fully backgrounds compatible and no old file encoded in any version of unicode will ever become unreadable. but for a lot of unicode blocks, instead of doing the legwork themselves, they just picked existing standards to trust and incorporated into unicode in full faith, so now there's just literally meaningless poo poo like ⍼ that's permanently a part of it forever

However!

Nearly all Banjo emoji depict a four string (or "plectrum") banjo. This is NOT the banjo most people think of when they think of banjos and banjo music. This is NOT the most common type of banjo.

It's like if bicycle emojis depicted three wheeled bicycles. Do those exist? Yes. But it's not what you think of when you think of a bicycle!

The better banjo to depict is a five string banjo, where the fifth string attaches partway up the neck on the side of the instrument.

As you can see, this is very important and we should all care about it a lot.

My new phone has that option on its keyboard so I can do it over Discord too and yeah, I've been making a million turtles. The others are good too, but I think they suggest the turtle first so I've been making a ton of them.
