https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2024/dec/03/south-korea-declares-emergency-martial-law-yoon-suk-yeol-north-korea-latest-updatesGuardian posted:South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol declared an “emergency martial law” on Tuesday, accusing the country’s opposition of controlling the parliament, sympathising with North Korea and paralysing the government with anti-state activities. This doesn't seem good. In my mind, I had South Korea on my list of chill countries. I was hoping that it was just the president going crazy by himself, but it does seem like he has some of the military on his side. That combined with his rhetoric makes me worried that they'll fling a few rockets at the north. Feels like I was expecting Russia or the US to start WW3 and SK has sneaked up behind to hit me in the back of the head with a chair. What's everyone think, wet fart or WW3?

No way is there any interest in starting an actual war with the north IMO. It's a coup attempt and he's dumb for not waiting for "TRUMP!" to be ready to assist (worked for Bibi tho)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3os_q35CikA the news on the ground seems to be that soldiers tried to get into parliament to break up the meeting, but civilians and lower-level lawmakers blocked them from entering. the parliament seats are slowly filling up. both the president's party and the opposition oppose the martial law declaration, and korean law dictates that martial law can be broken up with a 51% vote, so it seems like the game is basically get enough people in to hold a vote.
