Look how round this buddy is. It’s a fledgling, maybe a thrush, maybe a female blackbird, idk. They were running around the brewery this morning getting in the way, asking for foods and being unafraid of me and my coworker. They ain’t even got tail feathers yet, just round with funny little legs. About baseball sized, maybe slightly smaller? I didn’t have any bugs or worms to feed them and I felt bad. But just look at this round friend tho

Do the birds live indoors or did they make it back outside?

redshirt posted:Do the birds live indoors or did they make it back outside? I prefer that they don’t live indoors, but because we have a big roller door open all day to move stuff in and out, we can’t do much about them flying in. Roundbuddy went and hid under a stack of pallets in the alley when the bar staff started arriving and we had to move pallets out of the bar, so I hope they’re okay and found some bugs to eat. Pretty sure we had some sparrows nesting in the rafters over spring (Southern Hemisphere, we’re coming into summer). I don’t like to kill things, so I protect my grain sacks and brewing equipment and just let them be. Never seen a rat or mouse though, my city and neighbourhood has a really good rodent elimination program because the bird life in New Zealand is really sensitive to rats, stoats, possums and hedgehogs. And domestic cats. I have two, but they are only allowed out when I’m home, one is too old and fat to kill birds and the other is too young and dumb and likes to be where he can see me and I can see him. I will update tomorrow whether I see round friend or not. Kinda tempted to get up early and get some worms from my compost at home, in case round mate is hungry.

Anderson Koopa posted:Aww it looks a little like the egg it hatched from recently. Much bigger and rounder! And with some real feathers. They’re a teenage half-baked birb. Not fluffy like a chick, not full feathered like a grownup bird. They can get some height with their learner flying, they spent an hour running around the top of the half-wall in the bar tweeting around lunchtime.

It could maybe be a song thrush due to the light feathers on its underside. But definitely a round bird!

Borb probably just got kicked out from his home. Bird parents are notoriously strict. Possibly was looking for a couch to crash on for the night. Or maybe they were hoping to score some free food. Did you at least try to offer some regurgitated food?

Looks like a fledgling American Robin, poor lil birb was either knocked out of their nest or fell out, the lil spots indicate it should still be fed by parents but not much longer (maybe by Xmas it'd be ready to leave the best), guessing from their size and borbiness. Have you tried regurgitating partially digested mealworms into it's open maw? Bah, someone beat me to that last joke. I'd take it to a local animal rescue, they might be able to rehab it into the wild. Birdspeed lil borb!
