I give your invention the worst grade imaginable: An A-minus-minus!

No, unfortunately this isn't a pencilhands thread. Just got back from CVS, and wow—what a mess.

The pharmacy is probably the most miserable place on earth. The original pharmacist quit, and they replaced them with some dork about as charming as a wooden block. After that, they started cycling in random staff from other locations. Apparently, pharmacists are quitting in droves?

They used to offer $6 medication delivery, which was great. Now, they close midday for a 30-minute lunch break. Makes sense if they're short-staffed, but when I showed up at 2:05, there was a long line and four employees who all disappeared for the break. No one covers for each other—it feels like some weird payroll scam for the company.

The place is chaotic. Employees are overworked, dealing with frustrated customers all day. While I was there, some old timer started grilling the kid at the counter about waiting 10 minutes at the drive-thru, probably thinking about the "good old days" of mom-and-pop pharmacies before him and his ilk sucked every nickel and cent they could put of the economy in exchange for mcmansions.

Does anyone work at a pharmacy who can share stories about why it's so bad? Honestly, CVS feels like a disaster for both employees and customers. What happened to pharmacies being places you could actually rely on?

And don't get me started on mail order pharmacies. They're great until they don't refill your hypertension meds on time and you spend 3 days feeling like you're going to die waiting on the loving mailman

Capitalism, OP.

I moved my prescriptions to my grocery store pharmacy and they’ve been mostly great. No lines and I get loyalty points on my co-pays.

I used to have ExpressScripts for mail delivery but my company dropped them and moved our plan to CVS mail order and they blew so fuckin bad I just moved everything to the Stop n Shop and just get our pills when I do the shopping. They do close for an hour midday for lunch but it’s always the same time every day so it’s easy to plan around it. (The store is unionized and the pharmacists got lunch breaks in the last negotiation.)

I find it very funny that all the times I went to USA and stopped on a CVS or Walgreens I could find literally anything but the meds I needed.

Do you want to buy some ultra processed hypercaloric artificial flavored candy? We have plenty of options! Do you want to buy 25 different flavors of Mountain Dew? We got you covered!

Do you need some medication to relief your sore throat? It's on that small hidden shelf on the corner at the end of the store.

Well yeah, you go to the pharmacy for meds. The longer they keep you there, the higher the chance you'll buy something else

I went to pick up some medication, was told they were out, spend three hours trying to get ahold of my doctor to move the prescription to another pharmacy, did it, got a call saying the original pharmacy filled it even though they were out three hours ago, and then had to race to tell my doctor to stop the transfer.

I don’t know how people who need a medication to survive deal with this system.

I thought they closed that place down!
I worked at one of those but in the store area, not the pharmacy itself. It's because the pay is absolute poo poo and they treat the pharmacists badly. They used to make them work 12 hour days without a meal break and maybe give them 1 tech for the day. They have nonstop customers all day and have millions of dollars worth of sales but these stores treat them like they're minimum wage retail employees. Anyone with other options will not go near these jobs

I worked as a pharmacy tech for a few years, and it is some of the most miserable work I've had. When I worked they didn't have automated pill-filling machines, but I dunno how much they really speed up the process of filling a bottle. There are tons of pill bottles and you have to get x number of pills out of the stock bottles, so for every prescription you have to go on a hunting expedition unless you've worked there long enough to know where everything is. Beside that, you're in a healthcare industry so people expect you to know poo poo about illness, but at best the registered pharmacy tech test has you know the difference between non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and antipyretics. The pay is drat near minimum wage and the workload is like having a call center where you can physically visualize the queue from all the baskets piling up.

This was at a grocery store pharmacy and I think the worst poo poo was when I accidentally saw my manager (the pharmacist)'s pay stub. Motherfucker made like 12 grand a month, and he didn't pay much for his pharmacy college back in the day, but he still got very boomery about people working through school as if people can do that.

I'd go back to it if they paid worth a poo poo but they don't.

The CVS inside Target I used to go changed their hours from like 9am-9pm every day to 10am-6pm, closing for lunch 30 minutes and closed on weekends. Every time I go the line takes like loving 30 minutes to get through. It's hosed. How the gently caress is anyone with a day job supposed to get meds without it being a giant hassle?

It was a bit of a shock at first because here pharmacies only sell meds, personal care products and occasionally you will find some zero sugar chocolates at the cashier. My first impression when I went to a CVS for the first time was that I was shopping at a white label convenience store

Your brokebrain sin is absolved...go and shitpost no more!

american healthcare-related jobs are underfilled due to covid burnout. and Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) have been tightening the screws financially towards pharmacies for several years as well

i am thinking about switching to a different pharmacy, because the one that i have been going to for a few years has gotten worse. they are understaffed, have trouble keeping meds in stock, and i think the business people have decided to stop investing in that store

I have a friend who's a pharmacist. He worked as a retail pharmacist at a CVS for like a year or two out of college. From my understanding, retail pharmacy is basically the bottom rung of the career field.

He's never had any crazy stories but I know he couldn't wait to get out of there. It's just retail hell, but with added bonus of insurance issues and people's general well being kinda in your hands. There's always a problem and it's always your fault and you have to solve it yesterday.

He eventually got a desk job in the industry doing research papers and other stuff and couldn't leave CVS quick enough.

quote:

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman who is accused of ending a call to an insurance company with the words “delay, deny, depose” was charged Tuesday.

In an arrest affidavit, the Lakeland Police Department said officers were contacted by the FBI on Tuesday regarding an alleged threat made over the phone.

Boston reportedly told detectives she used the phrase “because it’s what is in the news right now” and that she had learned of the phrase after the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Boston said, however, that she does not own any firearms and “was not a danger to anyone,” police said.

Based on Boston’s statements, investigators said they believed she meant to threaten the insurance company “by using the UnitedHealthcare CEO’s homicide to her advantage.”

Boston was charged with threats to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, according to the affidavit.

A judge set her bond at $100,000, stating, “I do find that the bond of $100,000 is appropriate considering the status of our country at this point.”

I ended up going to a mom and pop pharmacy. Their hours aren’t as great as CVS/Walgreens, and delivery is one of the two getting in their car and driving it to my house (I decided not to do delivery anymore because I felt bad lol) but ultimately it’s just a better experience because there’s no line and the pharmacist knows me and it’s just chill vibes.

I’m blessed enough not to be on any controlled medication so I can’t say if mom&pops are better at getting ADHD/ADD meds vs CVS/Walgreens. But god those stores are the most depressing places to be in.
