A huge part of the issue is that the Democrats continue to take the high road while the other side says and promises literally whatever anyone wants to hear even though the high road is proven to lose against that. No one gives a gently caress about loan forgiveness for minority veterans that started a business in a low income neighborhood, and that's before the other side says something you wanted to hear even if they contradicted it 10 seconds later. Just say whatever it takes to win the election. People are loving stupid and vote based on vibes anyway, just roll with it. Worst case they're gonna vote you out anyway. But the Democratic Party doesn't seem to actually give a gently caress about being in power. In other news, Judge Cannon has blocked the release of the final report from Jack Smith's investigation. Kansas City air traffic control center has gone atc zero. They lost everything. Radar, radio, land lines, cpdlc, literally everything. You can go to adsbexchange.com and look at the giant space with almost no airplanes in it to see how impactful this could be if it’s not temporary. I don’t know how this happens without the lines coming into the building all getting cut. The last time something like this happened was with Chicago center when a tech ops guy cut the lines in the basement, lit a fire, and tried to mill himself. This poo poo doesn’t just happen.

There are backups for everything of course but whatever they did may have blown all the fuses. I’ll probably find out more on Wednesday when I go back to work. This is another best worst case scenario in that this stuff never seems to happen at the worst time. Like if the Chicago center fire had happened a few hours later there would have been absolute chaos. Tech ops stuff that can have major impacts usually happens on the overnight shift for this reason but they won’t pay for any of those people to be there overnight so you run into “we need to do this before midnight” a lot and then weird poo poo happens. This will get a whole lot of attention though because an entire center going down is a big loving deal.

Going back and listening to the audio, the controller did a good job on the initial traffic call for the helicopter. He very much did not call traffic for the CRJ though and it looks like this should still be a requirement on their end unless t there’s something specific in the SOP’s in regards to this which is entirely possible. If they don’t have anything saying he doesn’t have to make that traffic call he’s going to get torn apart in court. “Do you want to explain why you didn’t do X when it’s a requirement in front of a court room” is definitely something I talk about with my controllers. That controller has a whole lot of very bad days ahead even if did everything by the book.
