Tiny Timbs posted:Why are the mods/admins obsessed with keeping around posters besides me who suck and are a drag to everyone around them? It sounds like this person should’ve been dumped long before. YOSPOS also has a "don't post anime" rule because of one particularly awful poster who couldn't stop a) posting anime while b) complaining about how poor she was and how everyone else in the forums should be guillotined for being computer touchers etc. and also c) refusing literally any help from even non-wealthy posters. She finally got banned enough times to not bother coming back. You still can't post anime in YOSPOS. There are ongoing issues with other posters like that in a bunch of other forums and a lot of those posters who are even more historically unhinged. It's just a forums-wide thing where a few moderators seem to have pet psychopaths and none of the admins seem to care about it. But that's not a current event so I'll shut up about it and just say that I truly appreciate GiP for being one of the sanest, friendliest places on this website.

Apparently Elizabeth May, the slightly not entirely all there leader of the Green Party, is making noise about how we should annex California. For a great many reasons it is a very good thing the Green Party has never won more than three seats in Parliament.

Whoever the Liberal Party of Canada elects as their next leader will be our prime minister until the next election, which is set for no later than October 20th, so unless a vote of no confidence is called and passes (the threat of which is the main reason why Trudeau stepped down) they'll still hold a majority government until then. That means there's a minimum 10 months between Trump taking power and the Liberals being voted out. It's arguable that the Liberal Party could end up stronger in this year's election because Trudeau is resigning, and I'm personally of the belief there's going to be a huge panic shift in how the various elements in the Conservative Party try to do any and all election propaganda. They've spent the past ~12 years making it all about how Trudeau wouldn't be/isn't/wasn't a good leader, with no actual meat to any of it other than "we'll undo what he did!", which, at this point, is a mix of a) stuff that's become major parts of Canadian federal law and policy and b) stuff negotiated between the federal and provincial governments that you literally cannot roll back without pissing off MILLIONS of people. The Conservatives can't run on "we're going to cut back spending by clawing back the several billion dollars we threw at British Columbia for transportation improvements" without alienating everyone in BC who isn't a product of multigenerational educational withdrawal, for example.

The Diablo 1 speedrun record that stood for over a decade was recently found to be illegitimate. Each floor was run separately and spliced together with hacked save files, the runner changed the time on their computer to generate more optimal level placement, and in some points they stitched together different bits of footage seamlessly (at least, in video -- you can see evidence of the splice in the audio stream). If there is any type of gamer you don't want to draw the ire of, it's ARPG dorks.

I think most recently he's gotten into, out of, and back into cryptocurrency, as well as having a stroke and then deciding the best thing to do would be to become a Serbian citizen to promote how great it is there and how there's definitely nothing going on in Kosovo. Turns out a month and a half of not being able to form new memories after massive physical head trauma is a real solid sign of brain damage.

Early 80s Jobs would have made Musk cry in public though, because early 80s Jobs was the kind of guy who would conduct interviews while tripping on acid and mock the interviewee's virginity, which is exactly the kind of drug-fueled assholery that Elon Musk can only wish he could muster.

Watching poo poo that's funny as hell happen is going to be the best we can really do over the next four years. I try to avoid doomer poo poo but god drat I just looked up how much of a pain getting the right wing states in the late 40s to ratify the 22nd amendment, and I guarantee half the country is going to be trying to figure out the fastest way to unwind that a week from now (and the other half is just going to let them do it). If this sinks Alberta's economy in the process though it'll be kind of leopards-eating-faces wacky up here. Literally a province full of idiots who think that their economic contribution to Canada is the most important because most of it's in the petroleum industry... that's now going to be tariffed to hell and back, cratering its value. Yeah, motherfuckers, try your separatist bullshit once three quarters of your GDP vanishes and you can't even afford to keep the literal lights on.

The best type of exploit speedrun is the "arbitrary code execution" class, where you do things in such a precise order at such a precise speed that the game engine shits itself and starts overwriting chunks of memory based on how you've put certain inputs and actions in, then executes them as code. Some are pretty simple, like skipping to the end credits of a Game Boy game. Some are a bit more complex, like the time someone coded Snake and Pong into Super Mario World. Then there's the Triforce% ACE Showcase, in which dozens of people spent years reimplementing beta code, pre-release rumours, and "my uncle works at Nintendo" style late 90s/early 00s bullshit into Zelda 64 through a series of exploits and extremely high-precision replayed button presses, and then played it live on an unmodified Nintendo 64 and cartridge in front of audience of thousands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x_pqyrf9lA

The Democrats also just... don't want to win. They want to come close enough to make it look like they tried, but winning? Winning means you have to actually do work for four years. If you narrowly lose, you get to spend the next four years collecting donations while sitting on your rear end.
