My optimistic take is that they'll likely suck at that too. I can't imagine they'd be successful reaching out even farther from the MAGA circles - it's a level of skill they don't have.

Not to mention that the military is having a real rough time recruiting at the moment, missing tons of targets. Same with police departments, secret service, etc.

dumb dumb dumb timeline

quote:

An investigation of Livelsberger’s searches through ChatGPT indicate he was looking for information on explosive targets, the speed at which certain rounds of ammunition would travel and whether fireworks were legal in Arizona.

-----

Among the details law enforcement disclosed: Livelsberger stopped during the drive to Las Vegas to pour racing-grade fuel into the Cybertruck, which then dripped the substance. The vehicle was loaded with 60 pounds (27 kilograms) of pyrotechnic material and officials are still uncertain exactly what detonated the explosion, but said it could have been the flash from the firearm that Livelsberger used to fatally shoot himself.

-----

Livelsberger harbored no ill will toward President-elect Donald Trump, law enforcement officials said. In one of the notes he left, he said the country needed to “rally around” him and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

One of the only things Donnie's right about is that California has mismanaged forests with absolute tons of tinder everywhere, just waiting to explode into wildfires. Naturally, he's wrong about the why (hurf blurf water CALIFORNIA BAD).

Problem #1 is that 60% of California's forests are managed by the federal government. The federal government would rather fund various versions of cops for people instead of cops for forestry management, so they don't have the people nor the funding. That could be supplemented by state/local folks, which speeds headlong into:

Problem #2 that the state/local fuckers underfund local forestry services and/or the fire department too. LA's mayor pulled $20M from LAFD to fund the LAPD because a dollar spent on forest management is a dollar not spent on bouncing nonwhite people's faces off police cruiser hoods. Policing the trees won't reduce the crime wave that exists on TV! Also, incarcerated firefighters account for 30% of LA's total wildfire fighting force and that appears to be decreasing.

To add to that, it's Chinese military strategy to be ready to invade Taiwan in 2027. That's not being hidden, it's their public goal for military capability building. It's a lot like how we/America has shifted all military planning from counterinsurgency to near-peer competition/conflict.

So, of course China is building weirdo new megalargehuge landing craft. Of course China is building artificial islands and then claiming they suddenly have rights to nearby territorial waters that are supposed to be international. That's all part of their stated, public strategy.

The question remains if they mean that strategy of using a 2027 hypothetical invasion of Taiwan as a way to get their military right, or if they want their military right so they can then execute an actual 2027 invasion of Taiwan. It's not exactly in their interests to tell the world which is true! They might not even know themselves!

In other news, the MAGA flag will literally be flying alongside the US flag at the state capitol on inauguration day. My state is not the only one that will be doing this.

chuds are very flag-mad because Biden did the standard thing on the death of a president - flags at half-mast for 30 days

naturally, that overlaps with january 20th, so therefore biden is disrespecting Donnie and overcorrection is required

all very stupid

the Dems should have just made it more clear the economy is great and if people aren't feeling that or wage growth then that's on them. like the time Biden said $2000 check and the troops rallied to explain that means two checks that add up to $2000 and not understanding that means you're dumb enough to think words mean what they mean. I'm sure they'll learn some practical lessons and won't get rolled in 2026

The Democrats did seriously suffer by having a president that couldn't talk good, but that's not all of it.

The big example I have isn't the (accurate) check stuff - it's the FEMA $700 Critical Needs Assistance, which is supposedly a new thing from a recent law. That was relentlessly attacked by every single Republican influencer with the tiniest audience as the only money that FEMA gives to disaster recipients, no matter how much the agency, administration, etc accurately said otherwise. Don't know how you fix that kind of weaponized ignorance.

OTOH I'm invited to a townhall meeting of all the DNC chair candidates later this month (finally replacing the guy that spent $120mm losing to Lindsey Graham by 10 points) and am extremely open to suggestions of what is the funniest question I can possibly ask them

Every time I really start thinking about what question I'd ask, I feel myself getting annoyed/angry. I think my best one: "Do you actually believe the poo poo that you're saying to us to earn our vote?"

The way I see things, that might be a good start! I can't think of a good variant that's like "do you believe the administration/republicans are as big a threat as you say they are" because they've mostly stopped saying that anymore :v:
