My optimistic take is that they'll likely suck at that too. During the first administration, they were objectively awful at stopping leaks of damaging information out to the press - and the leakers were MAGA-types. I can't imagine they'd be successful reaching out even farther from the MAGA circles - it's a level of skill they don't have.

Not to mention that the military is having a real rough time recruiting at the moment, missing tons of targets. Same with police departments, secret service, etc.

It's not generally, and you can generally take any sort of gun thru a state where that type of gun might not be legal if you are only travelling through that state and have the gun locked up appropriately etc. But DC has very strict gun laws, and I imagine taking an AR-15 into DC (especially for the purpose of shooting up a pizzeria or w/e) probably breaks all kinds of laws.
