It’s bad. Even for a kids movie. I guess it’s better than It could’ve been if it was made by someone who doesn’t have a style but I don’t know

It should’ve been about a kid or Steve surviving Minecraft and then fighting the dragon instead of the movie we got

It's just so boring and free of any development. I'm pretty easy to please with kids movies but I was just done with it halfway through. Honestly Jack Black was the only thing remotely keeping my interest.

Kids liked it but man it was just not good.

Did stop playing before chicken jockey's were a thing, so I fear that scene will not resonate strongly.

My 7yo has never played survival but chicken jockey was her favourite part. I don’t get it.

JB and Momoa were good fun together, I’d like them to have had more screen time being 80s idiots competing in bravado.

the weird image of everyone hugging and smiling in front of the hordes of burning pig monsters is really sticking with me.

Last night I watched Picnic At Hanging Rock and liked it a lot. I thought why not watch the new miniseries. Just watched the first episode. It feels way overproduced. The actress who plays Mrs. Appleyard is way too young.

Yeah the original film just has such a mood to it. So well shot and filmed. loving amazing score.

Oh yeah, that score was sublime. My only prior exposure to Zamfir was that episode of King of The Hill where Hank considered hiring him to play at a company picnic.

Also sounds like we're losing full summaries, usually a full chapter translation a day ahead of the page scans coming out, and a day after the short and sweet summary leak. Shame to only experience a chapter three times going forward.

Re: Tinker Tailor

Colin Firth and his star power always seemed like a problem to me before. "Who could the mole be? Is it one of four shabby middle-aged obscure character actors, or is the world-famous movie star who's done nothing for the whole film except stand in the background? Which of them will get the big scene at the climax, I wonder???"

But this time around it clicked into place. Like Firth says, Mark Strong's character always knew it was him, really. And so did Smiley. Maybe everyone knew. But they couldn't admit it to themselves until they were forced into a corner and had no other choice. So in that regard, Firth sticking out like a sore thumb in the line-ups of suspects actually works pretty well.

Another thought from this viewing, maybe the key to the whole film is Kathy Burke's line: "I don't know about you, George, but I feel seriously under-hosed." Make love, not (cold) war!

I was jonesing for more of the same vibe, so I tried watching the 1960s Spy Who Came in From the Cold with Richard Burton. I don't think this is even a criticism of the film, but sadly it was not doing it for me at all. Oh well, maybe some other time when I'm not chasing something very specific.

this scene is not in the book but is apparently an anecdote from Le Carre's own life.

all the George Smiley heads should check out Black Bag, it's like a Smiley movie but extra horny (in, admittedly, a more hetero way than Tinker Tailor)

I watched one of those Vanity Fair videos where actors talk about their old roles and apparently the original director dropped the project when Clooney was cast because he'd wanted a big star for the movie and at the time Clooney was just a tv actor.

Went on an Elmore Leonard movie kick a few months ago. Loved Out of Sight, but Get Shorty just didn't work for me. Like, every single character in that movie was completely miscast compared to what I imagined in the book. Especially Dennis Farina as Bones.

Oh yeah, huge fan, especially season 2 with Mags and 3 with Quarles (and 4, despite Patton Oswalt). Seemed like the show lost a step when Leonard died, but the last season did a pretty great job sticking the landing.

Gripweed, excited for you. Thriller Bark rules but you're just on the cusp of the series peak to-date. It's almost all great stuff, but good gosh the rollercoaster that's the next arc is a feat. Remains incredible afterwards too but it's mind blowing how well Oda handles the stuff you're about to get to.

Man, that takes me back, so much of the commentary around Clooney was that he looked like a soap actor.

It's seems insane there was a time when a movie had Clooney and J Lo as the leads and the director was like "No, I wanted some actual names for this."
