hot cocoa on the couch

i was talking with a coworker today while she heated up her food in the microwave at lunch and she told me that she thinks cream of mushroom soup is the food she's consumed the most of in her life. now while that's obviously hosed up and sad, it got me thinking about what mine might be. i've been playing a lot of balatro lately (as has the whole world as it is the smash hit gaming sensation that is sweeping pc and mobile gamers the world over) and i thought of this stat screen

my top 3 is probably:
- rice and chicken, basically a staple for my entire adult life, probably still eat it like 1-5 times a week (including lunches)
- spaghetti with tomato + meat sauce. classic for my whole life. real poo poo now, fake italian-american stuff as a kid. i eat less spaghetti now in favour of other pastas which are more fun to make, but just in aggregate it's easily in #2 still
- i think actually #3 is probably simply pepperettes + cheese. i ate this a ton as a teenager in high school and continued to have it as an after work snack when i worked nights (w/ beer at that time). i was off it for a few years but now where i work im again in constant contact with pepperettes and cheese and eat them a ton again

im assuming most goons #1 spot is occupied by pizza that has sat out on the counter overnight (no refrigeration). also much to the chagrin to many a gbs guy, beer and liquor also don't count

My Canadian wife introduced me to pepperettes and while I wouldn’t eat them as a meal they’re pretty tasty. I’d say for meals chili is probably pretty up there, along with a good old fashioned burger and fries.

calling it a "meal" is a stretch, more of a snack. but at various points in my life it's been the "4th meal" late at night/before bed for me so im counting it. also the quality of pepperette varies widely, the best ones as usual are from the little shops and not the poo poo that like, maple leaf or whatever makes

I found an interesting conversation regarding calories per dollar over in F You and Dine.

Taco Bell has a meal for 4 box, that goes for 25 bux and gets you 3,280 calories and 5 more bux to spend on something else.

Tortillas, all the down.
Cheese and tomato for traditional quesadilla? Of course. Refried beans and some cheese and olives burrito? Yes. Any leftover beef or chicken? In the tortilla it goes. There are very few foods that I wouldn't eat in a tortilla.

Yeah I was on a bagel and cream cheese breakfast kick for... drat probably ten years at one point. Currently replacing it with an oatmeal kick because I figured out I can make coffee and a bowl of oatmeal by just pouring a kettle of boiling water on stuff.

Non-breakfast answer is probably toaster oven cheese quesadillas.

"An actual meal" answer would probably be Curried Chickpeas with Spinach. I've actually made an effort to cook that less but it's so easy and goes great over rice.
