Look out, here come my posts
I was the first coder and one of the admins for the Something Awful GTA San Andreas multiplayer server. We had been playing on some pubbie server and it sucked and I was like "where's the code for this mod I bet I can do better" despite not knowing anything about the code or really knowing much about programming at all. It turned out to be this giant lua script and I figured out enough stuff that our version was, in fact, better. I stopped when I made some change that people didn't like and other people who actually knew what they were doing started working on it too so I was intimidated and salty about it.

We got enough donations that we had the server well funded and me and the server owner (I think it was Primaris?) split the excess, which was like 100 bucks each. So overall I've made a profit on my :10bux:

During project chanology I made a thread about seeing scientology ads on the forums, and got a reply from lowtax.

I have a friend who is a filmmaker, so I pmd Darkpriest here on the forums and got my friend in touch with his favorite adult actress ever, Stephanie Swift, to offer her a role in one of his projects. The pure joy this man had when he called me after and told me about the phonecall he had with her should be bottled and sold as a medicine against depression.

I got this title for the dumbest fucking possible take on sea shanties. Specifically, I derailed the meme thread because sailors in the 18th century weren't woke enough for me, and you shouldn't sing sea shanties. In fact, don't have any fun ever.

Dumb Sex-Parrot posted:

The story goes that around the time The Colbert Report was super popular, the smiley intended to be "colbert" was made that looked like this: :crossarms:, imitating Colbert's habit of taking off his glasses and raising an eyebrow skeptically. And simultaneously, unrelatedly, another group was designing a crossed arms smiley (:colbert:). Someone decided (allegedly at neato burrito's suggestion, apparently) to troll both groups by buying both smileys with opposite names.

I don't know if that story is 100% true but that's what I've heard.

My contributions are minor. I helped with a few Weekend Webs and a few crappy submissions to MSpaint/Photoshop threads that somehow ended up on a few front page articles. I've mostly been hanging out in the LP forum for the last 12 years or so.

The cries of the dead are terrible indeed; you should try not to hear them.
A goon bumped his head and mentioned some weird symptoms incidentally in a post but was otherwise complaining about going to work.

I said don't go to work, go to hospital. Later he came back to the thread and thanked me and said the doctors said it was a good thing he came to hospital as he might have died without treatment.

If you bump your head and feel weird hours later, go to hospital.

There was an awful link of the day to Doogy Dawgs logoshack, a website for sprays for team fortress 2.

Doogy Dawg was a guy in my TFC clan, who I introduced to moonfruit (the website builder he used) and I suggested him he make it.

It honestly wasn't a bad site, and it was so weird that of all the spray sites, of all the lovely websites, it was THAT one that anyone came across, to do awful link... I dunno, just feels so unlikely.

Much as I would love to take that credit, no I was not and have never claimed to be Adaptive Systems. People just associate me with gimmick accounts even though mine were less memorable in the long run.

I dug Adaptive Systems as much as everybody else, though, and back in the 2000s somewhere I had an idea for what I still think could have been a solid gimmick account called "Pop Scholar." Pop Scholar would drop into random threads with a review of some semi-famous song that was laterally related to the thread topic in some abstract way, and deliver this esoteric, Pitchforky head-somewhat-up-rear end dissection of the lyrics and song meaning, and it would read as commentary on both the song and the thread/poster. I posted once with it, was promptly banned for being a lovely gimmick, and never attempted a resurrection, but I still think it was a good idea.

Nothing as specific but I can be credited/ blame for starting a lot of the older articles on tvtropes. (The site went thru a creepy period after I left and bot brought up here a few times )Especially the ones that were bad puns. I named the section that eventually became WMG, until ‘amusing fan theories you’ve heard’ became ‘stupid meme humor central’ for a little bit.

Also I still see fan spaces use ‘expy’ a lot when describing certain characters and I’m amazed my goofy invented jargon is still useful today

2) kicked out of the lets play sub forum and was on retsupurae getting heckled by chip, ironicus and slow beef - it's the one with the bad Dr Phil impersonation and being really bad at gradius.

3) other than that, it's small things that aren't that well known, I think I discovered the genius game here before there was a thread, and was here for not one, but two G4TV failures!

Oh, and being the resource for many a game content (Screwattack, Rooster Teeth, Giant Bomb, etc)

I also have now become the unofficial game show expert on TVIV (somebody had to watch Beast Games)

you can't just use these terms as if anyone outside of tvtropes is going to understand what the hell you're talking about.

i googled them so for anyone else who gives a poo poo, "WMG" is "wild mass guessing" and i guess is tvtropes-ese for "fan theory that makes no sense", and "expy" isn't "experience points", it is short for "exported character", as in a character who is a ripoff of a character from some other story.

Also I had perhaps the forum's shortest moderator term. Lowtax made me and (I think) 2 other people mods while I was asleep.
