South Bracket, 12th Seed: U.C. San Diego Tritons UCSD just set an NCAA record by becoming the first school, EVER, to send both its men's and women's teams to the tournament in their first year of eligibility! Fun fact: UCSD is my alma mater! So here's a fun AMA (Ask Myself Anything): Q: So their pretty good at sports, huh? A: No! We are turbo-nerds. My wife visited the school for literally one hour a decade or so ago, and said "wow, this place is jam-packed with dorks." She's not wrong. The average GPA is over 4.0 (above perfect). Their coach has said he's had to reject prospects because of academic restrictions, and those prospects went on to play at Ivy League schools. There was no sports when I graduated 25 years ago. Our basketball was division III. I, and the fellow alumni I keep in touch with, was absolutely floored to find out they not only made the tournament, but actually managed to field 2 sports teams in any sport at all, whatsoever. Also, it's "they're pretty good at sports" as in the contraction, not "their pretty good at sports" as in the possessive. Q: So, are you going to upset Michigan? A: Definitely. Coming from an Ohio State family, there is now double the rage against Michigan coursing through my extremely geeky veins. Q: What is a Triton? A: That is a GREAT question, and I have a GREAT answer: I don't know. Q: What else can you tell us? A: Nothing, I have no life, I went to UCSD where they make you leave your social skills in a locker when you check in like you do with your wallet when you get arrested.
