Hyrax Attack! posted:I like Ichiro fine but the novelty of him constantly being around wore off a while ago. Yes he's one of our all time greats to be honored, but feels like we do that an awful lot. Although guess it makes sense as Griffey/Felix don't show up unless it's something really big, Edgar & Dan Wilson are employed by the team, Randy Johnson or Arod would be odd, and Buhner or Joey Cora aren't big enough names. Hard disagree. I wanna see more of the greats not less.

STAC Goat posted:I love that there’s a “controversy” about banning certain bats because one teams pitching sucked balls for one series and they didn’t like it. Yeah, I don't get it... if the bats work, just start using them? (also it wasn't the bats)

I hope someone does a proper juiced ball-like modeling sim on it. It's been around for a bit and apparently Vitcus requires you to go in and do a bunch of analysis to know what to create for the specific hitter. I can't find it anymore, but Bryson Stott spoke about it for a couple mins.

Dumb question: What are the rules for players going into the stands to make a catch? Relatedly, can they climb up and stand on the outfield wall to make a catch?
|
![]() |
|
R.D. Mangles posted:Yes. It's harder to do now because of the extended netting. Even dumber question: can a fielder climb up the wall into the bleachers and rob the run? WAY dumber question: do the fielders have to start on the field or can the left fielder be in the stands when the pitcher starts their motion?

Sydin posted:You do have to be in the field of play when the catch is made, IIRC during the Rizzo tarp catch that was just posted there was a brief umpire review on the field to determine if the top of the tarp was considered as legally in play territory (they decided it was). Like theoretically if an OF started their positioning close enough to a low OF wall that they could jump it, run into the bleachers and "catch" a HR ball it would still be counted as a HR. That all makes sense. Where is that line drawn? For parks where there is a fence above the outfield wall that is considered in play but the top is not, could a fielder somehow stand on the fence's vertical face and catch the ball? It's just dumb questions all the way down
