We did it, we survived the offseason. The world is burning but at least baseball is loving back.

Surprised by all these takes from Braves fans. Were all your hopes for the season really resting on a productive Jurikson Profar?

Starting the season 0-7 makes people sad.

hey Sale v May should be a good game tomorrow

Sale is good but it doesn't matter when the Braves offense is vaporware. And replacing our one free agent signing with some scrub because we signed a dude that immediately got popped for PEDs doesn't help matters.

The Braves aren't going to go 0-162 this season but we are most likely going to go 0-7. Hopefully Acuña will be better this year than he was in 2022 after coming back from his last knee explosion but it'd be cool if the rest of the team remembered how to hit baseballs (outside of our best player, Ozuna from the Braves, who was our best offensive player last year and in the small sample size of this year by a mile).

Granted, it’s easier to make it now, but still

I mean, tbh that makes me more confident that they are starting the season 0-7 and making the playoffs.

Starting the season on a west coast trip against the Padres and then the Dodgers is probably not ideal for racking up wins early but I expected them to win at least a few games out there. Acuña and Strider coming back will be nice but I somehow think there's more problems than one outfielder and one starting pitcher.

The season is long so I am not doomposting yet but god drat what a poo poo way to kick off the season.

You can't catch it in the stands, because you aren't in the field of play. I am not sure what the actual call would be if you stood on the top of the wall and grabbed it (outside of the movie Major League 2), but I think that's also not allowed.

just be glad your team ripped off a bunch of pro athletes and didn't do something like fund a fascist insurrectionist in taking over the White House!

they probably did that too

The Braves are owned by a faceless corporation so it is probably less easy to tie them to funding a fascist insurrectionist taking over the White House, but I am sure top executives in that faceless corporation (and possibly the corporation itself, I don't care enough to check) probably did.

The Ozzie Albies contract was insane theft and it is malpractice that his agent let him sign that poo poo. You could double the value of that contract and even with the injuries it would still be a solid team-friendly contract for him. Most of the other ones were a bit more in line with the general MLB way of suppressing player earnings early in their career which might lead them to sign at a discount in exchange for locking in a guarantee. Which, yes, that sucks, but it is not an exclusively Braves thing.

So who actually decides if a rain delayed game in progress gets postponed or just called as a complete game? Is there any sort of rule regarding how close the score is? Because I imagine if it was two to one instead of nine to one the Yankees / giants game wouldn’t have been called in the top of the 6th today. I’m also salty that they got somewhat bailed out of Stromans poor start and only had to cover 5 or so innings with the pen instead of 8

The rules as far as I can recall are: it becomes an official game after 5 innings (or 4.5 innings if the home team is leading). If it is postponed before that point, it gets resumed. If the game is tied, it gets resumed. If the away team was losing (or the game was tied), but then took the lead in the top of the inning but the home team's half of that inning hasn't been completed, it'll be resumed. If one team is leading after 5 innings otherwise, it'll be called as a shortened game.

I do wish Max Fried well though. He was very good for the Braves, and good on him for getting paid because the Braves weren't going to do it.

Isn’t there a lot of chatter that Snitker is going to retire at the end of the season?

Yeah, this is probably his last year.

I've read some comments about how Acuña shouldn't have tweeted publicly about it, but gently caress that, Snitker threw his rear end under the bus publicly in press conferences when that happened.

I think Sean Murphy is back to being amazing and we have Drake Baldwin now as well but I do miss William Contreras as Braves catcher/DH. But I mean, I don't think he'd be as good of a catcher if he wasn't traded, so overall I am happy for him. Well, I mean, I'm not happy he got his nutsack blasted but you know what I mean.
