I liked the part where the Cubs won

I'll be honest I liked the idea of the balanced schedule on paper because I was sick of playing the loving Cardinals 19 times a year but now that we actually have it I feel like it's kinda lame.

The A's and Rays are minor league teams now, really they should just play each other.

And yet the Cubs have won 2-of-3, get hosed Suarez go terrorize some other team already.

Where the Cubs are is absolutely inexcusable: third in overall revenue but just 26th-of-30 in Payroll/Revenue percentage. And this is by the way all the while Ricketts keeps coming out to the media and crying poor over and over and insisting every last dollar of baseball revenue gets put back into the team. That's just estimated baseball revenue too: it's not accounting for poo poo like Ricketts owning 9/10ths of the businesses in Wrigleyville so every time they have a home game he also gets tens of thousands turning out onto the streets to flood into his bars/restaurants/hotels. A lot of Jed's weird moves make sense when you view them from the perspective of him having a mandate to build a team that is at all times at least good enough to threaten a postseason run if they get hot at some point, but to otherwise never make a serious big market financial commitment. Dansby's 7/177 was in all likelihood approaching the upper bound of what Ricketts will ever sign off on.

Pressly hasn't blown a save yet but he's looked terrible, velo is down yet again and he's got no control. A competent team would probably punt him out of the closing spot pretty soon for Hodge, but my guess is because he's a Gutsy Veteran™ with Closing Experience™ he'll get to stink it up for months before eating a phantom IL stint and working somebody else in.

The torpedo bat controversy is extremely funny and it's gonna be even funnier when one series propels half the league to adopt the things and it turns out no they're not actually magical silver bullets that turn every hitter into Aaron Judge: they're situationally useful if you're good at getting the sweet spot of the barrel to the ball consistently. Also the Brewers might have just pitched like poo poo, actually not even "might" they did pitch like poo poo. Trust me I've been watching some games with some really bad pitching in them: I know.

It's dumb too because it's not even some closely guarded Yankees trade secret. Tons of players had heard about them, guys on other teams are using them too, etc etc. Just seems like the Yankees happen to have been the most bought in to start with.

Wow imagine extending the really good player you just traded for: madness. What kind of team would do something like that???

Yeah you could nitpick the order of the top handful of parks but ultimately a) in a city, b) in or near a commercial district with shops/bars/restaurants, and c) next to public transportation access are ultimately the three keys for a really nice fan experience.

The "good" news is that because of the weird road trip schedule the Cubs only really have to cover one Steele start next week and then can otherwise "skip" him and live with a four man rotation courtesy of all the off days. The bad news is it's still gonna be 2-4 starts minimum where one of our best two pitchers is unavailable. Come on down Collin Rea I guess, no way in hell Wicks or god forbid Horton get an actual chance with a key starter out.

You do have to be in the field of play when the catch is made, IIRC during the Rizzo tarp catch that was just posted there was a brief umpire review on the field to determine if the top of the tarp was considered as legally in play territory (they decided it was). Like theoretically if an OF started their positioning close enough to a low OF wall that they could jump it, run into the bleachers and "catch" a HR ball it would still be counted as a HR.

lmao the Cubs DFA'd Kilian (who admittedly has been injured/very bad for a couple years now) to trade for a guy who's also been just as injured/bad but throws ~8-10 MPH slower. Just Jed doing Jed things.

I read the article and from what I understand they've had to "refresh" the bricks a couple times already because of normal wear and tear. Which is kind of a poo poo excuse because plenty of similarly styled installations are kept around for a lot longer via active maintenance efforts but w/e. All the team had to do was put out a press release before the renovation explaining what would happen and extend an offer to anybody who owned a brick to be able to have it cut out and given to them. This is bare minimum stuff. But I guess it would have cost a billionaire a couple extra bucks and obviously we can't have that.
