Yeah, with his body type, with his production history should absolutely be slamming his signature on the 3rd largest contract in MLB history. He'd be under contract until he is 40. The literal best case scenerio for him here is he gets that exact same contract but somewhere else.

I don't know who Hector is and if he is a smoke salesman or not, but this seems like either a guy who is not actually negotiating in good faith (i.e. he is saying he wants to stay in Toronto but has 0 intention to) or a complete fabrication.

I don't understand how someone can be a fan of baseball, a game that has 162 games a year, a game that is nearly entirely process and not results driven, and a game where failure is the expectation the vast majority of the time for nearly every single play, and also melt down about a single game in April.

Those things are so diametrically opposed in my brain that it boggles me.
Its 1 game in April who the gently caress cares.

I mean, he's got a career WHIP of 1.133, which would be #7 overall among active pitchers if he qualified. A career ERA+ of 129, which would also be #7 overall among active pitchers if he qualified. He came into the league the same year as Logan Webb, has less innings pitched but leads him by bWAR, 19.9 to 17.7, and that 19.9 bWAR puts him at #22 out of all active pitchers despite only being 29.

I'd say that's a pretty good fuckin' pitcher. Certainly good enough to have a random insane outlier game where everything went right for him.

and even if he did suck, terrible pitchers have elite games all the time! Phillip Humber threw a perfect game for christs sake. poo poo happens, luckily there are 161 games a year.

You know its April 25th, right? Dude is on pace to have an oWAR of around 7. That would put him 6th last year, right between Juan Soto and Fransico Lindor.
