Have you noticed that Google loving sucks lately? The search results are always filled with the worst blogs you’ve ever seen. It was crap 2 years ago, but then they decided to poo poo it up even further with an AI Overview that’s flat out wrong 80% of the time. I Googled “nationalism” and the AI Overview told me about anti-nomianism. I’m not a luddite, but Sundar Pichai should be placed under house arrest until he makes Google great again.

Google search sucks and it ain't gonna get better. Spend  on Kagi, an imperfect solution, but one that is (generally) improves and is less poo poo on the average.They should give me a drat affiliate link at this point for how much I beat that drum.

the results have been garbage for a long time, but what really annoys me the most is i'll often remember an exact quote from an article or clip from 10+ years ago that i want to find again, and even searching for it with quotes around it does not find it anymore even though it used to and i know it's still there because i can find what i'm looking for using other terms, google just deletes old search data or prioritizes new stuff so highly that it overrides old exact matches

Finding simple info on topics that I used to be able to find easily is a nightmare now, and I've had people try to gaslight me that it isn't. In addition to Google search being slop, all sites debased themselves to be SEO optimized. Clickbait was a problem for years. Everything is optimized for doomscrolling. Google search certainly got a lot worse, but the internet as a whole did too. Also I could just be a dead internet theory bot posting this

today i tried doing a google image search on the firefox iphone app and when i hit enter it switched to the google app for results. the search results did not include the image i was looking for until i added quotes around it. this was the image, for the record.  searching "to hell with the sun" without either quotes or adding "meme" at the end gives a bunch of poo poo about hell and the bible and stock photos of the sun. google is a gently caress.

I have had pretty good luck with Kagi, and I have been a paying subscriber for more than two years. The results are comparable to what I used to get with Google, and there’s not a loving robot trying to target marketing stuff at me. You get decide sites are ranked yourself and that works genuinely pretty great. It cost money, I don’t like that part, but I am happy enough to pay if it means that they have a means of making money that doesn’t involve selling all my data.
