Didn't he say something about how he worked in design or architecture or something? From the pictures I got the feeling that he's probably seen a bunch of fancy designs that probably work in the context of the rest of the buildings they were in and decided to just throw a bunch of it together with no regard to how it ties in with the rest of his house like he's trying to impress his Sims by just buying them all the most expensive furniture.
