Post your funny / awesome nests and birds here! I enjoy how low effort some of the dove / pigeon nests can be. What could possibly go wrong here? ![]() Same but with a fireplace exhaust. ![]() Someone didn't move their car for awhile. ![]()

I've got these pillars in the front of my house that these stupid loving mourning doves keep building nests on. The previous owner put those little plastic spikey things that are supposed to deter birds from landing around the edges but they just use that as a second wall to make the nest even more stable I've tried piling up big rocks in between them also but they somehow knock them off I hate these loving birds they are loud and poo poo everywhere and I have to knock their nasty rear end empty nests down every November when I am putting up Christmas lights and I don't know how to stop them from coming back

i leave my back door open for my dog alot. a bird built a nest in the square thing under my kitchen light. luckily i noticed it before they got eggs in there i took the square thing down and put it outside in a safe place with out touching the nest, they didnt use it though =( after a month of seeing if any bird would use it i took it down cleaned it off and put it back in my kitchen.

![]() a swallow nest has for many years instead been a phoebe nest. a new batch of fledglings just flew the coop a few days ago, hence the large amount of poop.

Some loud bird made a nest above my back door, the cats love it. i have a patio cover made of corrugated metal and the birds wings brushing against it is loud as gently caress so for a while I thought someone was trying to break in every time the birds came home. Just the other day I heard tiny peep peep sounds coming from up there so I guess the eggs hatched, good for them.

No nest photos because I can't see it but every year some birds park themselves on the palm tree near the front door. This year I think it was mockingbirds based on their appearance and calls. And their aggression. There are cats on this street that are either strays or outdoor pets and for almost a week straight I would hear a bird start yelling and look outside to see one or both parents swooping down at a cat that looked completely unbothered. I did hear hatchlings chirping for a while too but one day all the bird noises stopped coming from that tree. Hopefully they just fledged and the parents immediately left. The backyard sounded like it had birds too that stuck around longer but I didn't check to see what kind.

I always thought it was interesting how cuckoos would lay their eggs in another bird's nest. The other bird would then be responsible for raising the cuckoo chicks.![]()

Anderson Koopa posted:I always thought it was interesting how cuckoos would lay their eggs in another bird's nest. The other bird would then be responsible for raising the cuckoo chicks. In the US this is the brown headed cowbird which is now common across the whole country. If you have a bird feeder it's a good idea to stop putting out seed in the late spring & summer if you see cowbirds frequently. Most songbirds that are feeding chicks don't want seeds, they want bugs. But cowbirds keep eating seed and don't care. Also it makes a very funny sound. Earlier this spring I was working in the yard and thought one of the neighbors had left a phone outside or something, because I kept hearing these bloop-bloop-bloop notification sounds. But it was a cowbird.
