It's easy to focus on the negatives about so much around us nowadays. But let's swing things around and talk about when things are done right.

My submission is Taskmaster. A British comedy show that is massively successful and has versions all over the world now. How do they do things right? They have the entire series up on youtube in its entirety and they upload new episodes very soon after they air.

To me, this is doing things right. They are getting their stuff out there for the public in a way that is accessible to pretty much everyone. I wish more entertainment franchises took this attitude.

Here is the channel:

Andor was one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, and it was Star Wars based. A small miracle, really.

Sorry, it would have to be the exact same show, but without Star Wars attached, to be doing it right. You see the difference?

If there's no annoying robot then in what sense is it Star Wars?

What I like about Shudder is that every September 1st, I sign up for my account again, watch through Halloween, cancel my account, and they just let me enjoy my two months with them so easily. Re-upping takes 2 seconds, canceling takes 2 seconds. They are happy to get 2 (sometimes 3) months of fees from me rather than try to hassle me for more and it keeps me coming back. Thanks, Shudder!

Also, I was just replaying Baldur's Gate 3 for the 5th time and I just want to say, I think the voice acting is low-key one of the greatest video game experiences of my life. These little meshes of polygons and textures can still consistently make me laugh and cry through almost pure voice acting and it's just such a tremendous talent. Same with Hades/Hades 2. Say whatever you want about the gameplay or anything else, but I think the voice acting is just something really really special.

If you're not increasing the price to keep up with inflation, you're effectively lowering the price over time. Costco dog came out in 1984, adjusted for inflation it should be $4.73 now.

Because it never leaves its bedroom, no one has ever seen this poster's real face.
Microsoft's handling of Double Fine (so far)
the typical story when a small company that does good but weird work gets bought up by a big software conglomerate is, corporate interference, loss of anything that makes it special, stripped for assets, unceremoniously dissolved.
but Double Fine has always sucked at managing their finances, and Microsoft's approach has just been to give them what they need to work and let them keep being Double Fine. the result has been no more 70%-finished projects being released prematurely presumably to make back what they can, and the stuff that they do make instead having several years to bake and coming out polished to a mirror shine. Psychonauts 2 was a blast and Keeper looks cool and weird as hell and exactly the kind of thing you're not supposed to be able to get corporate funding for

similar sort of situation with Laika, the stop-motion film company behind ParaNorman, Coraline, Box Trolls, etc. for a while there was kind of a big question mark as to how the hell they stayed in business when their movies just don't make that much money and they take a really long time to make. turns out one of the main dudes is the son of some Nike bigwig who owns the company, and they want to make good movies so they do
