For real: I'm not afraid of bears at all. I have a healthy respect for them and would never willingly go near one in the wild, but I've been close enough a few times, and they always take off like a dart. They're big scaredies. That's Maine black bears, which are very small compared to grizzlies or polar bears, which is a whole other class of bear, honestly.

"Well, we were having lunch on a beach in Alaska and the pilot saw a bunch of bears and by the time we got back into the helicopter they had surrounded it and we were worried about them going after the helicopter before we took off, you remember that right Three Olives, wasn't that fun?" "Yes mother, I don't remember it as fun, I remember it as being quite terrifying." Anyways, that was the entirety of the story she relayed. I can't remember if that was before or after the time she asked him "Do you guys ever cook beans?" "Um, I guess?" "When Three Olives was little sometimes I told the maid to cook us beans." I saw a black bear rooting through my trash once. Walked out on my porch and saw him splashing that trash all over the sidewalk. Scared the poo poo out of me. I yelled out "Hey bear, stay out of my trash!" he turned around, looked at me, stood up on his hind legs and pulled out a piece of paper said "Sir we have a warrant." I said "Mb nevermind."
