St. Louis Zoo is the best thing about St. Louis which I understand is not a high bar but it's one of the best zoos in the world Go get sandwiches from Blues City Deli, the second best thing about St. Louis

The only way to positively ID a kookaburra is if it's also in an old gum tree. Also obligatory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSLjjGhbvc Grey Cat fucked around with this message at 19:22 on Nov 11, 2025 |

I think St. Louis also has a pretty famous chess club. Get the monkeys a board and a clock stat.

We went to sugarfire for BBQ because I've never had "real" BBQ as I am from California. It was good but like, pretty much the same as what you get from a bbq chain in California, if the idea was experiencing REAL st Louis bbq I would rather have gone to a legit place but whatever

If you have room for it later, Pappy's is where it's at for ribs but they're dry rubbed Memphis. Bogart's is supposed to be very good - new since I left town, but apparently by one of the guys who started Pappy's. edit: It's in Soulard though and if you're going all the way down there you may as well just go to Blues City Deli imo Squiggle fucked around with this message at 19:58 on Nov 11, 2025 |

I get depressed looking at apes in the zoo. They hate all of us looking at them all the time and having nowhere to go to avoid it. Except orangutans they love the attention.

My zoo has red pandas, so I win by default. Unless your zoo also has red pandas then we are in a stalemate.

Red panda was the first thing we saw. It was sleeping in a cool tree fort in its exhibit.

Unrelated but the air bnb we are at has this on the wall in the kitchen and it really pisses me off because that says "saul" there is no way to read it other than "saul"

I drove through there with my kid a few years back and we checked it out without any research. Definitely kicked rear end. There were animatronic dinosaurs at the time, and my kid was in peak dinosaur phase. So it was legit Seems like a cool city, but I like cities that are kinda beat up and gritty

Now come.to the Sedgwick county zoo. It's way better and they take amazing care of the animals. They had 4 baby elephants this year and are a major contributor to the breeding program!

I love imos but I would only recommend it to other hogs. Pappy's is good but dry rubbed and that is an affront to St. Louis sauce lovers And my brother worked at the city museum for like 8 years and has worked at Blues City Deli for 5! I went to the St. Louis Science Center on a school trip as a kid and I remember a high shelf with a cross-section of a human brain in... I think a resin block? Anyway, I stared at it for probably 10 minutes and now it's a core memory for some reason.
